The Fluorite/Water Interfaces: Structure and Spectroscopy from First Principles Simulations

Despite its relevance to industrial, environmental and medical application, the fluorite/water interface still lacks a microscopic/atomistic characterization. In this contribution we provide the first atomistic description of such interface using first principles molecular dynamics simulations. Our models, which explore a wide range of pH, are able to provide a rational of the recent vibrational spectroscopy experiments. In particular we find that at neutral pH the water at the interface is disordered, in agreement with the experimental data, and explaining why no Vibrational Sum Frequency Generation (VSFG) signal is recorded. Interactive MCDM Support System in the Internet

NIMBUS is an interactive multiobjective optimization system. Among other things, it is capable of solving complicated real-world applications involving nondifferentiable and nonconvex functions. We describe an implementation of NIMBUS operating in the Internet, where the World- Wide Web (WWW) provides a graphical user interface. Different kind of visualizations of alternatives produced are available for aiding in the solution process.

A cryptochrome-based photosensory system in the siliceous sponge Suberites domuncula (Demospongiae)

Based on the light-reactive behavior of siliceous sponges, their intriguing quartz glass-based spicular system and the existence of a light-generating luciferase [Muller WEG et al. (2009) Cell Mol Life Sci 66, 537–552], a protein potentially involved in light reception has been identified, cloned and recombinantly expressed from the demosponge Suberites domuncula. Its sequence displays two domains characteristic of cryptochrome, the N-terminal photolyase-related region and the C-terminal FAD-binding domain. Abstract The main objective of this paper is to determine the behavior of few plastic materials using two different type of tests. We use classical uniaxial tensile test to determine the most important mechanical and elastic characteristics, such as: yield stress, Young modulus, tangent modulus, maximum stress and maximum strain and to plot engineering stress vs. engineering strain curve for these materials. Management of demolition phases and related waste, in a building renovation project near Salerno, Italy

Compliance with recent environmental regulations, the demolition phase, within the building replacement process, plays a decisive role, in terms of execution and management methods. The contribution addresses the problems related to the management of the site, in compliance with regulatory requirements for selective demolition and disposal of waste materials. Possible organisational and procedural solutions were investigated with particular reference to the phases of selective demolition (in compliance with Minimum Environmental Criteria), excavation, handling, treatment, recycling, and disposal of waste materials.

The neural mechanisms underlying schizophrenic behavior are unknown and very difficult to investigate experimentally, although a few experimental and modeling studies suggested possible causes for some of the typical psychotic symptoms related to this disease. The brain region most involved in these processes seems to be the hippocampus, because of its critical role in establishing memories for objects or events in the context in which they occur. Proliferative verrucous leukoplakia: a proposal for diagnostic criteria.

Proliferative verrucous leukoplakia (PVL) is a rare form of oral leukoplakia, which was first described in 1985 by Hansen et al. Since then, various published case series have presented PVL as a disease with aggressive biological behaviour due to its high probability of recurrence and a high rate of malignant transformation, usually higher than 70%. PVL is a long-term progressive condition, which is observed more frequently in women and elderly patients over 60 years at the time of diagnosis.
