Spirituality and Ethical Behaviour in the Workplace: Wishful Thinking or Authentic Reality

2008

The link between religion and work is not new. For centuries, people have strived to interpret their work through religious lenses. Recently, however, a significant paradigm shift has occurred. The current view is that spirituality, as opposed to religion, is a better construct for understanding the relationship between the individual and modern pluralistic workplaces. This current perspective, sourced in various socio-cultural factors, views spirituality as positively influencing numerous organisational outcomes. Also implicit within this discourse is the notion that allowing and encouraging spirituality in the workplace leads to improved ethical behaviour at a personal level and an enhanc…

Sommitellut muusat : rituaali ja leikki luovan kirjoittamisen prosesseissa ja kirjoittajaryhmän toimissa

2020

To write is a complex, delicate and intense act. The goal of this study has been to find out what the process of creative writing looks like when viewed through the concepts of ritual and play. I have engaged with creative writing research, research on ritual and play, and new materialist philosophy. Research data has been formed by ethnographic methods in a writing group as well as my own creative work. I have applied ritual and play to create writing prompts and creative writing methods. The ethnographic data consists of personal and group interviews of creative writers. The personal interviews shed light on what kind of rituals, habits, feelings and sensations the writers observe in thei…

Between romanticism, anti-slavery and spirituality: The transcultural feminist echoes of Gertrudis Gómez de Avellaneda’s Sab in Hannah Crafts’s The B…

2017

Questue e figure dell’alterità in Sardegna

2015

2019

This paper takes into consideration the interconnections between, food, sexuality and spirituality which constitute the core of Michèle Roberts's novel Impossible Saints. We shall be focusing on the process of cannibalization of women's bodies, considering the term both in a metaphorical and in a literal sense with relation to the stories told in the novel. We shall examine the relationship between Roberts's "new" saints and food and the desecratory, macabre representations that the author offers of the sacred meal.

Recuerdos figurados. "Fotos de familia" en Sicilia

2020

“Life is not what you have lived, but what you remember and how you remem- ber it to tell”. Taking cue from the words of Gabriel García Márquez, the essay analyzes a gallery of photographic images portraying “family photos”, made in Sicily between the end of the 19th century and the first decades of the 20th century, which are placed in an inter- mediate space between oral and written traditions becoming “biographical object”. The analysis of the photographic corpus searches for the connections between the different events that the image has gone through (production, transmission, fruition). It is in his “life story”, in his passage from one generation to the other, from one type of represe…

Il Bingo. Consociazioni fra disaffiliati in una sala giochi siciliana

2017

Analysing customers attending a Sicilian Bingo hall, the article identifies a subsidiary kind of sociability for those people who, due to traumatic events such as losing a job, the death of a spouse or divorce, have experienced a progressive estrangement from their usual social life, and the consequent weakening or loss of bonds of solidarity. The concepts of «consociation» and «disaffiliation» are the interpretative frames of analysis adopted by the author to examine the material collected from 30 semi-structured interviews with players selected from a larger sample of 160 frequent customers of the Bingo hall in the city of Marsala. The Bingo hall allows the creation of alternative forms o…
