We report the Soret absorption spectra (500-350 nm) of the cyanomet derivatives of human hemoglobin and horse myoglobin, in the temperature range 300-20 K and in two different solvents (65% v/v glycerol-water or 65% v/v ethylene glycol-water). In order to obtain information on stereodynamic properties of active site of the two hemeproteins, we perform an analysis of the band profiles within the framework of electron-vibrations coupling. Exploration of the X-ray sky has established X-ray astronomy as a fundamental astrophysical discipline. While our knowledge of the sky below 10 keV has increased dramatically (∼8 orders of magnitude) by use of grazing incidence optics, we still await a similar improvement above 10 keV, where to date only collimated instruments have been used. Also ripe for exploration is the field of X-ray polarimetry, an unused fundamental tool to understand the physics and morphology of X-ray sources. This paper presents the topology of a multimedia tourism service that targets mobile devices equipped with broadband and either multicast or broadcast access capabilities. Multicast / Broadcast access is used to handle the delivery of multimedia data to many simultaneous users in the service area. ‘I changed my life’s course’ : The impact of the Helsingin Sanomat Foundation fellowship on the career path of a journalist

This study focuses on the fellowship program of Helsingin Sanomat Foundation, which has sent a hundred mid-career journalists from Finland to study abroad at prominent universities. Based on two surveys, one on the fellows (n = 45) and one on a control group (n = 52), the article discusses the impact the fellowship education has on the journalists and their careers. The surveys are complemented with in-depth interviews of 10 fellow journalists. Design of an efficient digital down-converter for a SDR-based DVB-S receiver

This paper presents the design of an area-power efficient digital down-converter suitable for broadband communication systems. The DVB-S standard has been used as a design example. It has been shown that by selecting a bandpass sampling to generate only one spectral image, the case in which the relationship between the digital carrier frequency and the sampling frequency is 1/4, not only gives the smallest area but the lowest power consumption.
