Forces and flow structures evolution on a car body in a sudden crosswind

A vehicle driver is commonly exposed to strong side air flows, for example when passing through a wind gust. The aerodynamic efforts generated in these situations may induce undesired lateral deviations, which can lead to dramatic effects, if the driver is surprised. Mobile Wireless Interfaces: In Search for the Limits

With the proliferation of 2G and 3G Telecom and other wireless networks hundred of millions of users will be able to access wireless services with their terminals in only a few years. In this paper we discuss the possibilities and limitations of existing and emerging mobile technologies and methodologies for porting information and functionality from traditional PCs to mobile devices and vice versa. We argue that in order to be able to properly port things between devices an equivalence concept for user interfaces is required.
Turbo-roundabouts vs Roundabouts Performance Level

AbstractIn this paper the performance level of basic turbo-roundabouts and double-lane roundabouts are compared. Cowan's M3 headway distribution was chosen to take into account bunched vehicles moving along each circulating lane; the Hagring model was adopted to evaluate entry capacity both at turbo-roundabout and at double-lane roundabout.The comparative analysis was performed evaluating operational performances in terms of delay suffered by users entering the intersection.Results of the analyses show that efficiency of basic turbo-roundabouts highly depend on traffic situations and can be significant when major road captures most of the traffic demand.

Turbo roundabouts are a particular road intersection layout, designed to increase the safety of double-lane roundabouts, while maintaining their excellent capacity. The main feature of this new concept of roundabout is the impossibility to move from one lane to another, provided by physical barriers marking the lanes. AbstractIn this paper, the outflow process of a weir with an irregular shape is studied using dimensional analysis and the incomplete self-similarity theory. A low-cost compact uniplanar Quasi–Yagi printed antenna

A low cost directive uniplanar broadband printed Quasi–Yagi antenna design is presented. As a particular realization, some prototypes have been designed to operate in the 2.45 GHz band. They have been then modeled, fabricated onto standard printed circuit dielectric substrate and tested successfully. For the design and the modeling processes, we have make use of FDTD based in-house developed algorithms. The obtained bandwidth is, for all the considered cases, better than 15%. The main radiation characteristics are 2–5.5 dBi gain, depending on the number of director elements, and better than 25 dB front-to-back ratio. Design of Yagi-like printed antennas for WLAN applications

A directive broadband printed Yagi-like antenna design is presented. We have focused on the 2.45 GHz WLAN band, at which some designs have been carried out. For the design and the modelling processes, we made use of FDTD based in-house developed algorithms. Some selected prototypes have then been fabricated onto a low-cost printed circuit board dielectric substrate and tested successfully.
