Restos de caminos antiguos en el término municipal de Viver (Alto Palancia, Castellón)
2018
In this article we present the finding of three ruts areas in the municipality of Viver, in the Alto Palancia region (Castellón). His study provides new archaeological evidences of the works of conditioning of the roads that have ascended the Palancia Valley in different historical periods.
Cernay-lès-Reims (Marne).
Vieraana omassa maassa : suomalaiset road-elokuvat vapauden ja vastustuksen kertomuksina 1950-luvun lopusta 2000-luvulle
2012
Road-elokuvat ovat tarinoita irtaantumisista, paoista ja muutoksen toivosta. Tielle kaasuttamisen pohjavireenä on yksilön kamppailu rajoittavia voimia vastaan. Suomessa on tehty road-elokuvia vuodesta 1959 lähtien. Mitä niissä paetaan ja mitä toivotaan? Miksi suomalaisissa road-elokuvissa lähdetään tielle ja mitä tielle lähdöstä seuraa? Vieraana omassa maassa on ensimmäinen laajasti suomalaista road-elokuvaa ja tiellä kulkemisen elokuvallistamisen merkityksiä luotaava tutkimus. Se tarkastelee tien ja kulkijan esittämistä suomalaisissa road-elokuvissa 1950-luvun lopusta 2000-luvulle elokuvantutkimukselle uudesta, spektaakkelin ideologisen kritiikin näkökulmasta. Eri vuosikymmenillä tehtyjä r…
Pachydema lopadusanorum n.sp. (Coleoptera Melolonthidae) from Lampedusa Island (Sicily Channel, Central Metditerranean Sea, Italy)
2018
In this paper the populations of Pachydema Castelnau, 1832 (Coleoptera Melolonthidae) living in Lampedusa Island (Sicily Channel, Central Mediterranean Sea, Italy), so far attributed to P. hirticollis (Fabricius, 1787) of North Africa, are examined. The comparison of the main morphological characters between these two populations allowed to attribute those of Lampedusa to a new species that is described in the present work. Faunistic and biological observations on these species are provided.
Retrieving and broadcasting near-real-time biophysical parameters from MODIS and SEVIRI receiving stations at the global change unit of the Universit…
2015
We present here the automatic processing chains implemented at the Global Change Unit of the University of Valencia. These allow for a near-real-time retrieval of various biophysical parameters from both Sun-synchronous TERRA/AQUA Moderate Resolution Imaging Spectroradiometer MODIS and geostationary Meteosat Second Generation Spinning Enhanced Visible and Infrared Imager MSG SEVIRI sensors. Retrieved parameters, namely sea and land surface temperatures SST and LST, respectively, normalized difference vegetation index NDVI, and vegetation condition index VCI, are similar for both sensors, and specific approaches have been developed and implemented for near-real-time parameter retrievals: htt…
Road Thermal Collector for Building Heating in South Europe: Numerical Modeling and Design of an Experimental Set-Up
2022
The combination/integration of renewable energy and storage systems appears to have significant potential, achieving high-energy results with lower costs and emissions. One way to cover the thermal needs of a building is through solar energy and its seasonal storage in the ground. The SMARTEP project aims to create an experimental area that provides for the construction of a road solar thermal collector directly connected to a seasonal low-temperature geothermal storage with vertical boreholes. The storage can be connected to a ground-to-water heat pump for building acclimatization. This system will meet the requirements of visual impact and reduction of the occupied area. Nevertheless, sev…
Pedagogical Leadership in Early Childhood Education during the COVID-19 Pandemic in Finland
2023
The daily life of early childhood education and care (ECE) in Finland changed due to the COVID-19 pandemic in the spring of 2020. The pandemic has had a significant impact on society at many levels, and it also has affected the work and workload of ECE leaders and the realisation of leadership. The aim of this research was to investigate ECE leadersʼ views on pedagogical leadership from the perspective of opportunities and challenges during exceptional times. The research uses the conceptualisation of broad-based pedagogical leadership as an analytical framework. The data consisted of the responses of ECE leaders (n = 492) to an electronic survey conducted in February 2021. There were sever…
Recent Advances and Future Directions of Microwave Photonic Radars: A Review
2021
Microwave photonic (MWP) radar has the advantages of generating and processing wide bandwidth microwave signals, reconfigurability, high immunity to electromagnetic interference compared to microwave electronic radar. It has the potential to be used in applications such as intelligent autonomous and cyber-physical systems. Recent advances in microwave photonic technology led to the generation, fast processing, and control of broadband signals. Because of the advancements in photonic technologies, next-generation microwave photonic radar is becoming more prominent. This article reviews the most recent advancements and future directions in MWP radars. This review article overviews the differe…
Repair Mechanisms for Broadcast Transmissions in Hybrid Cellular & DVB-H Systems
2006
This paper proposes a framework for investigating potential infrastructure cost savings in hybrid cellular and DVB- H systems by performing efficient error repair of broadcast transmissions. The main idea is to reuse as much as possible the existing network infrastructure to provide mobile TV services. The cellular system is not only employed to collect information, but also to send repair data to the users whose conditions are temporarily affected by noise, interference and fading. To enable an easy and efficient implementation of the repair mechanisms we adopt the use of application layer - forward error correction (AL-FEC) with digital fountain coding.
Application Layer FEC for Mobile TV Delivery in IP Datacast Over DVB-H Systems
2009
In this paper we investigate the potential gain that can be obtained in DVB-H using application layer forward error correction (AL-FEC) to perform a multi-burst protection of the transmission for improving the reception of streaming services for mobile terminals. Compared to the conventional approach with link layer multi protocol encapsulation FEC (MPE-FEC), this technique allows to increase the robustness of the DVB-H transmission not only as a function of the capacity devoted for error repair (FEC overhead), but also as a function of the number of bursts jointly encoded. The main drawback of this approach is an increase of the network latency, that can be translated into a larger service…
