When rock songs meet movies

2014

Distribution and sources of bulk organic matter (OM) on a tropical intertidal mud bank in French Guiana from elemental and isotopic proxies

2014

International audience; The mobile French Guiana coast is a shoreface region downdrift of the Amazon River, where enormous quantities of inorganic and organic materials are exchanged with the Atlantic Ocean. The rapid accumulation of these materials forms highly unstable shore-attached mud banks, which can be temporally emerged and then rapidly colonized and stabilized by microphytobenthos and opportunistic mangroves (i.e. Avicennia germinans). Mud banks are preferential sites for the accumulation and significant remineralization of organic matter (OM) due to intense erosion/deposition cycles and potential biological colonization. The distribution and sources of bulk sedimentary OM were cha…

Ca-rich carbonates associated with ultrabasic-ultramafic melts. Carbonatite or limestone xenoliths? A case study from the late Miocene Morron de Vill…

2016

The volcanic products of the late Miocene Morron de Villamayor volcano (Calatrava Volcanic Field, central Spain) are known for being one of the few outcrops of leucitites in the entire circum-Mediterranean area. These rocks are important because aragonite of mantle origin has been reported as inclusion in olivine macrocrysts. We use petrographic observations, mineral compositions, as well as oxygen and carbon isotope ratios coupled with experimental petrology to understand the origin of carbonate phase in these olivine-phyric rocks. Groundmass and macrocryst olivines range from δ18OVSMOW of +4.8‰, typical of mantle olivine values, to +7.4‰, indicating contamination by sedimentary carbonate.…

1400 years of man-environment interactions and soil evolution in the Saint-Mont mountain (Remiremont, Vosges)

2021

International audience; The SolHoM(a) project aims at determining the degree of landscape anthropisation in the Fossard massif (Remiremont, Vosges, France) by estimating the impact of past human occupations on current soils. Nowadays, a forest covers this relatively inhospitable mountain (hard climate, steep slopes, acid soils ...), but some remains suggest human presence for at least 1400 years. The Saint-Mont is a variscan orogenic granitic summit (height 672m) with valuable preserved archaeological relics, located south of the Fossard. At the top was founded the monasterium Habendum (from the 7th century to the French Revolution), which potentially comes after a late-antic castrum.Further…

The geochemistry of Tl and its isotopes during magmatic and hydrothermal processes: The peralkaline Ilimaussaq complex, southwest Greenland

2014

Abstract We use thallium (Tl) concentrations, K/Rb, K/Tl and Rb/Tl ratios and Tl isotopes in minerals from the alkaline to peralkaline Ilimaussaq complex (South Greenland) to trace magmatic differentiation, crustal assimilation, magmatic degassing, ore precipitation and hydrothermal metasomatism. Closed-system magmatic differentiation is marked by a coherent decrease of K/Tl- and K/Rb-ratios, whereas crustal assimilation results in a strong Tl-enrichment, causing low K/Tl-ratios compared to K/Rb-ratios. Thallium isotopes show only slight changes during orthomagmatic differentiation and the assimilation of crustal material cannot be traced, since the isotopic composition of the average crust…

Radial cracks around α-quartz inclusions in almandine: Constraints on the metamorphic history of the Oman mountains

1993

Radiating tensional cracks around α-quartz inclusions in almandine have been observed in metapelite samples from the southeastern Saih Hatat tectonic window, northeastern Oman Mountains. These almandines show an inclusion-rich (glaucophane + epidote) and strongly deformed core with inclusions of different mineral phases. The rim of the same almandines is inclusion-poor and shows only quartz, apatite, zircon, rutile and BaAl phosphates as inclusions. Quartz and apatite inclusions in the rim are single crystals often surrounded by radial cracks. These radial cracks developed during uplift by the dilation of α-quartz (4–5 vol%) without a phase transformation. Subsequently, these cracks were fi…

Coupures morphologiques et biochronologie chez les Kosmoceratinae de l'Est de la France (Callovien inférieur pp. à Callovien supérieur pp.)

1998

Abstract For the first time in eastern France, a detailed succession of the uppermost Lower Callovian to Lower Upper Callovian Kosmoceratinae is presented, according to the fossils collected in situ at Blye (Jura, France). It is compared with the abundant data from Champagne and Bourgogne. These ammonites may allow more accurate correlations between the subboreal and subtethysian biostratigraphical frameworks. They record numerous morphological changes, sometimes different from those generally accepted. They allow the precise recognition of the limits of the biostratigraphical units, and the definition of successive faunal units available in the lowermost Upper Callovian.

Unraveling the origin of the Late Triassic multitaxic bone accumulation at Krasiejów (S Poland) by diagenetic analysis

2012

Abstract A study of aquatic and terrestrial vertebrate remains from a bonebed in the Late Triassic continental succession near Krasiejow (S Poland) shows it was deposited by a single catastrophic event, perhaps a flood. Hardparts of Metoposaurus, Paleorhinus, and Stagonolepis show sedimentary infill and geochemical evidence for early diagenesis at different times and in different microenvironments. The infills in the aquatic animal bones (sediment, pyrite and calcite) show deposition in a freshwater environment, while those in the terrestrial Stagonolepis remains (mainly barite) point to an arid terrestial environment. The trace element content of the remains, together with the absence of a…
