Abstract Despite the biologically damaging impacts of solar ultraviolet radiation (UV) in nature, little is known about its natural variability, forcing mechanisms, and long-term effects on ecosystems and organisms. Arctic zooplankton, for example the aquatic keystone genus Daphnia (Crustacea, Cladocera) responds to biologically damaging UV by utilizing photoprotective strategies, including pigmentation. Bakalaura darbs „Bezrecepšu pretsāpju medikamentu lietošana sāpju kontrolei” ir pētījums par to, kā jaunieši (vecumā 20-30 gadi) veido izpratni par sāpēm, pretsāpju līdzekļiem un to lietošanu. Izmantojot Artura Kleinmana slimību skaidrošanas modeļus, caur jauniešu sāpju pieredzes stāstiem tiek skatīti sāpju izcelsmes skaidrojumi un sāpju nozīmīgums, kā arī bezrecepšu pretsāpju medikamentu efekta veidošanās un priekšstati par zāļu īpašībām. Pētījuma rezultāti norāda, ka bezrecepšu pretsāpju medikamenti tiek normalizēti un integrēti sāpju epizodes kontrolē caur sāpju nozīmes mazināšanu un medikamenta efektu un īpašību konstruēšanu. Modeling multipartite virus evolution: the genome formula facilitates rapid adaptation to heterogeneous environments

Multipartite viruses have two or more genome segments, and package different segments into different particle types. Although multipartition is thought to have a cost for virus transmission, its benefits are not clear. Recent experimental work has shown that the equilibrium frequency of viral genome segments, the setpoint genome formula (SGF), can be unbalanced and host-species dependent. These observations have reinvigorated the hypothesis that changes in genome-segment frequencies can lead to changes in virus-gene expression that might be adaptive. Los esteroles vegetales (EV) se adicionan a determinados alimentos debido a su conocido efecto hipocolesterolemiante. Se ha demostrado, mediante numerosos estudios clínicos que el consumo de 2 g de EV/día reduce entre 5-10% las concentraciones séricas de LDL colesterol. La Sociedad Europea de Ateroesclerosis (EAS) indica que es de interés el consumo de alimentos funcionales con EV en pacientes con colesterolemia moderada, así como en personas con riesgo cardiovascular que no estén en tratamiento farmacológico.
