Resonance between Cantor sets
2007
Let $C_a$ be the central Cantor set obtained by removing a central interval of length $1-2a$ from the unit interval, and continuing this process inductively on each of the remaining two intervals. We prove that if $\log b/\log a$ is irrational, then \[ \dim(C_a+C_b) = \min(\dim(C_a) + \dim(C_b),1), \] where $\dim$ is Hausdorff dimension. More generally, given two self-similar sets $K,K'$ in $\RR$ and a scaling parameter $s>0$, if the dimension of the arithmetic sum $K+sK'$ is strictly smaller than $\dim(K)+\dim(K') \le 1$ (``geometric resonance''), then there exists $r<1$ such that all contraction ratios of the similitudes defining $K$ and $K'$ are powers of $r$ (``algebraic resonance…
Root-restricted Kleenean rotations
2010
We generalize the Kleene theorem to the case where nonassociative products are used. For this purpose, we apply rotations restricted to the root of binary trees.
Lagrangians, Hamiltonians and Noether’s Theorem
2015
This chapter is intended to remind the basic notions of the Lagrangian and Hamiltonian formalisms as well as Noether’s theorem. We shall first start with a discrete system with N degrees of freedom, state and prove Noether’s theorem. Afterwards we shall generalize all the previously introduced notions to continuous systems and prove the generic formulation of Noether’s Theorem. Finally we will reproduce a few well known results in Quantum Field Theory.
Generating binary trees by Glivenko classes on Tamari lattices
2003
Using algebraic-theoretic results, we give an algorithm for generating binary trees within Glivenko classes in Tamari lattices. Tamari lattices are lattices of binary trees endowed by the well-known rotation transformation.
The Rotation χ-Lattice of Ternary Trees
2001
This paper generalizes to k-ary trees the well-known rotation transformation on binary trees. For brevity, only the ternary case is developped. The rotation on ternary trees is characterized using some codings of trees. Although the corresponding poset is not a lattice, we show that it is a χ-lattice in the sense of Leutola–Nieminen. Efficient algorithms are exhibited to compute meets and joins choosen in a particular way.
C3v Top Data System (C3vTDS) software for spectrum simulation of XY3Z symmetric-top molecules using the group chain
2010
Abstract The C3v Top Data System (C3vTDS) program suite has been developed with the aim of studying any rovibrational band or polyad of XY3Z (C3v) symmetric-tops molecules in a singlet electronic state. It is developed in the same way as similar programs for various molecular symmetries (Td, Oh, C4v, C2v and D2h). We work in the O ( 3 ) ⊃ C ∞ v ⊃ C 3 v group chain and this choice has consequences on the method used to specify the input parameters for Hamiltonian and transition moment calculations. One example concerning the ν 2 band of the CH 3 12 D symmetric-top molecule is presented. This package consists in a series of FORTRAN programs called by scripts. The whole package is freely acces…
Electrically Driven Magnetic Domain Wall Rotation in Multiferroic Heterostructures to Manipulate Suspended On-Chip Magnetic Particles
2015
In this work, we experimentally demonstrate deterministic electrically driven, strain-mediated domain wall (DW) rotation in ferromagnetic Ni rings fabricated on piezoelectric [Pb(Mg1/3Nb2/3)O3]0.66-[PbTiO3]0.34 (PMN-PT) substrates. While simultaneously imaging the Ni rings with X-ray magnetic circular dichroism photoemission electron microscopy, an electric field is applied across the PMN-PT substrate that induces strain in the ring structures, driving DW rotation around the ring toward the dominant PMN-PT strain axis by the inverse magnetostriction effect. The DW rotation we observe is analytically predicted using a fully coupled micromagnetic/elastodynamic multiphysics simulation, which v…
Die Primärstabilität von manuell und roboterassistiert implantierten Hüftendoprothesenstielen: eine biomechanische Untersuchung an Kunstfemora
2004
AIM We investigated the initial stability of cementless stems implanted with robotic milling and conventional manual broaching. METHODS Proximally porous structured stems (G2, ESKA-Implants, Luebeck, Germany) were implanted into synthetic femora. In one group, the femoral cavity was prepared by a CT-based robot (CASPAR, URS-Ortho, Germany) with a high-speed milling head. In the other group, femora were rasped manually with broaches. The broaches had 1 mm proximal press-fit, the robotic cavities 1.5 mm. The implants were exposed to 15 000 loading cycles with 1 000 +/- 500 N. The direction of forces on the implant head were chosen to simulate stair climbing. Internal rotation and translation …

Abstract Hakkinen A, Ylinen J, Rinta-Keturi M, Talvitie U, Kautiainen H, Rissanen A. Decreased neck muscle strength is highly associated with pain in cervical dystonia patients treated with botulinum toxin injections. Arch Phys Med Rehabil 2004;85:1684–8. Objectives To compare the isometric neck muscle strength of cervical dystonia patients treated with botulinum toxin injections with that of healthy control subjects and to evaluate the association between neck strength, neck pain, and disability in these patients. Design Clinical cross-sectional study. Setting Outpatient rehabilitation and neurology clinics in a Finnish hospital. Participants Twenty-three patients with cervical dystonia wi…
