Abstract. Quantifying the hydraulic properties of single fractures is a fundamental requirement to understand fluid flow in fractured reservoirs. For an ideal planar fracture, the effective flow is proportional to the cube of the fracture aperture. In contrast, real fractures are rarely planar, and correcting the cubic law in terms of fracture roughness has therefore been a subject of numerous studies in the past. Wavelet and fractal approach to surface roughness characterization after finish turning of different workpiece materials

In this paper, the surface profiles generated in longitudinal turning operations were characterized using continuous wavelet transform (CWT) and normalized fractal dimension Dn. In the comparative analysis, some characteristic roughness profiles after the turning of different workpiece materials, such as C45 medium carbon steel, nodular cast iron and hardened (55 HRC) high-strength alloy steel were selected. Low-K factor of SiO2 layer on Si irradiated by YAG:Nd laser

Abstract The change of optical and electrical properties of SiO2 layer on Si single crystal exposed to YAG:Nd laser radiation has been found experimentally. The second harmonic of YAG:Nd laser was used as a source of light. Before irradiation the SiO2 layer with thickness 0.75 μm had red color in reflecting light due to the interference. After irradiation with the laser with intensity of more than 3.5 MW/cm2 red color changed to yellow. However, samples with thickness 0.21 μm did not change color after irradiation. Surface-state electrons on a hydrogen film. 1. Annealing of the film

We have investigated the surface of thin films (thickness ∼2 µm) of solid H2 between 1.5 and 4.2 K by measuring the ac conductivity of surface-state electrons (SSE). The films were prepared on a glass substrate by quench condensation at 1.5 K and were therefore initially strongly disordered. In fact the surface of the virgin films before any heat treatment was so rough that no current due to SSE could be observed. Annealing the films decreased the surface roughness and gave rise to a thermal-activation-type temperature dependence of the SSE conductivity. By proper heat treatment up to 8 K the activation energy could be reduced to 10kB.

Correction of the tip convolution effects in the imaging of nanostructures studied through scanning force microscopy

AFM images are always affected by artifacts arising from tip convolution effects, resulting in a decrease in the lateral resolution of this technique. The magnitude of such effects is described by means of geometrical considerations, thereby providing better understanding of the convolution phenomenon. We demonstrate that for a constant tip radius, the convolution error is increased with the object height, mainly for the narrowest motifs. Certain influence of the object shape is observed between rectangular and elliptical objects with the same height. Efficient Perovskite Light-Emitting Diodes: Effect of Composition, Morphology, and Transport Layers

Organic-inorganic metal halide perovskites are emerging as novel materials for light-emitting applications due to their high color purity, band gap tunability, straightforward synthesis, and inexpensive precursors. In this work, we improve the performance of three-dimensional perovskite light-emitting diodes (PeLEDs) by tuning the emissive layer composition and thickness and by using small-molecule transport layers. Additionally, we correlate PeLED efficiencies to the perovskite structure and morphology. Background The purpose of this in vitro study was to investigate the effects of water-jet flossing on the color stability and surface roughness of five resin-based composites.
