An unsupervised region growing method for 3D image segmentation

The paper deals with 3D shape decomposition problem, objects are modelled as finite unions of almost-convex primitives. A new region growing method is proposed to extract meaningful objects parts. Parts are individuated by performing a set-partitioning of surface dominating points. The partition step returns labelled seeds from which to start a region growing procedure that propagate labels onto object surface patches. A fuzzy concept of λ-convexity is introduced to test noised real images. Experimental results are given.

Revising the history of Nitchevo with text archives

This article focuses on the way nitchevo, a nineteenth-century Russian borrowing, was adopted into the English language. In order to investigate the history of the word, six digital text archives were considered. The results of the research are promising: not only do they allow one to trace antedatings for both senses, which updates the treatment of nitchevo in the Oxford English Dictionary (OED), but they also shed light on its semantic development, spelling variation, and route of transmission. The presentation of this copper alloy belt buckle decorated with a cross flanked by two griffons from Fleurey-sur- Ouche (Côte-d'Or), gives us the opportunity to review our knowledge of this type of buckle, the corpus of which has been recently enriched by new examples. Even though the fifteen known pieces can be categorized in the group D defined by the characteristic finds of the Burgundian kingdom, the iconographical theme remains quite diverse. Also, discoveries have been made all over this vast area, underlining the existence of several workshops, not only in the Jura put also in the Lauragais area.

Abstract There is a large gap in knowledge regarding research on post-exercise blood changes in disabled athletes. There are relatively few data on adaptive mechanisms to exercise in disabled athletes, including disabled rowers. Two rowers from a Polish adaptive rowing settle TAMix2x that qualified for the Paralympic Games in Rio, 2016 took part in this study. They performed a progressive test on a rowing ergometer until exhaustion.
