Synthetic studies of neoclerodane diterpenoids from Salvia splendens and evaluation of opioid receptor affinity

2008

Abstract Salvinorin A ( 1 ), a neoclerodane diterpene from the hallucinogenic mint Salvia divinorum , is the only known non-nitrogenous and specific κ-opioid agonist. Several structural congeners of 1 isolated from Salvia splendens ( 2 – 8 ) together with a series of semisynthetic derivatives ( 9 – 24 ), some of which possess a pyrazoline structural moiety ( 9 , 19 – 22 ), have been tested for affinity at human μ, δ, and κ opioid receptors. None of these compounds showed high affinity binding to these receptors. However, 10 showed modest affinity for κ receptors suggesting that other natural neoclerodanes from different Salvia species may possess opioid affinity.

Selfies reflect actual personality – Just like photos or short videos in standardized lab conditions

2018

Abstract Social media sites are overflowing with millions of selfies, because people increasingly share what they do and who they are with the rest of the world. We examined whether self-expressions based on selfies elicit enhanced, consensual and accurate interpersonal perceptions compared to commonly employed laboratory conditions. Perceived narcissism was relatively higher and conscientiousness lower when ratings were based on selfies. This effect did not extend to the accuracy of ratings: Across all conditions, unacquainted observers agreed with each other and their ratings were correlated with a criterion measure of target personality. Except for agreeableness and self-esteem, accuracy…

Synthesis of fluorinated drimanes. Preparation of 9αF-drimenin

2003

Abstract A stereoselective approach to the 9α-fluorinated analogue of the natural drimane sesquiterpene drimenin starting from β-ionone is described. β-Ionone is transformed into a bicyclic β-cetoester from which 9αF-drimenin is prepared through stereoselective electrophilic fluorination at the C-9 with N -fluorobenzenesulfonimide followed by Wittig methylenation, allylic bromination, bromine-hydroxyl exchange and γ-lactonization.

Diastereoselective synthesis of antiquorin and related polyoxygenated atisene-type diterpenes

2007

Abstract A diastereoselective approach to polyoxygenated atisene-type diterpenes starting from (S)-(+)-carvone is described. The key steps used in the preparation of the atisene framework are an intramolecular Diels–Alder reaction, an intramolecular diazoketone cyclopropanation, an endocyclic cyclopropane ring cleavage and the regioselective reduction of an allylic bromide by a low-valent chromium species. The synthesis of natural atisanes antiquorin (1), atis-16-ene-3,14-dione (3), atis-16-ene-2,3,14-trione (8) and 3β-hydroxy-atis-16-ene-2,14-dione (9) following this approach is presented. Also described is the synthesis of 18-hydroxy-atis-16-ene-3,14-dione (5), the structure erroneously a…

Efficient palladium–ferrocenylphosphine catalytic systems for allylic amination of monoterpene derivatives

2006

Ferrocenylphosphines added to [Pd(µ-Cl)(η3-C3H5)]2 dimeric precursor produce efficient catalysts to effect the allylic amination of terpenic allylacetates. Particularly convenient are tetrakis(diphenylphosphino)ferrocene and 1,1′-bis(diphenylphosphino)ferrocene, which allow the amination of allylacetates with good to excellent selectivity, and have turnover numbers as high as 80 000, for instance, for the formation of allylaniline. Herein, we report on reactions that selectively transform geranylacetate, nerylacetate, linalylacetate and perillylacetate into the corresponding allylic amines. These preparative methods give facile access to various products of great potential industrial intere…

Expression, purification, crystallization and preliminary X-ray analysis of strictosidine glucosidase, an enzyme initiating biosynthetic pathways to …

2005

Abstract Strictosidine β- d -glucosidase, a plant enzyme initiating biosynthetic pathways to about 2000 monoterpenoid indole alkaloids with an extremely large number of various carbon skeletons, has been functionally expressed in Escherichia coli and purified to homogeneity in mg scale. Crystals suitable for X-ray analysis were found by robot-mediated screening. Using the hanging-drop technique, optimum conditions were 0.3 M ammonium sulfate, 0.1 M sodium acetate, pH 4.6 and PEG 4000 (10%) as precipitant buffer. The crystals of strictosidine glucosidase belong to the space group P 42 1 2 with unit cell dimensions of a =157.63, c =103.59 A and diffract X-rays to 2.48-A resolution.

Triterpene saponins from the roots ofAmpelozizyphus amazonicus

1992

A new triterpene saponin was isolated from the roots of Ampelozizyphus amazonicus together with the known 3-O-beta-D-glucopyranosyl-20-O-alpha-L-rhamnopyranosyljujubogenin and the known triterpenes melaleucic acid, 3 beta,27 alpha-dihydroxylup-20(29)-en-28 beta-oic acid, betulinic acid, betulin, lupeol. The structure of this saponin was elucidated as 3-O-[beta-D-glucopyranosyl(1----2)alpha-L-arabinopyranosyl]- 20-O-alpha-L-rhamnopyranosyljujubogenin by spectral analysis and chemical transformations.

Reporting, Reflecting and Recognising Emotions in Therapeutic Work with Domestic Violence Perpetrators : Experiences of the Jyväskylä Group Model

2020

Emotions are central in therapeutic work, but interventions for violence vary in how they address emotions. While emotional work with perpetrators is often associated with ‘anger management’ and behavioural elements, a more comprehensive view of emotions might be beneficial in efforts to stop and prevent violent behaviour. Perpetrators’ self-regulation can be promoted by recognising and addressing primary feelings (vulnerability, fear, jealousy, etc.) that may manifest as anger and aggressive behaviour. However, this kind of therapeutic work with perpetrators of violence is also challenging for professionals. For example, when working towards ending violence, it is crucial to differentiate …
