A Simple Approach for Determination of Numerical Values of Ferrite Nonlinear Susceptibilities

This article presents a straightforward approach for determination of numerical values of nonlinear susceptibilities of soft magnetic ferrites. It is shown that numerical values of susceptibilities can be calculated from the measured amplitudes of harmonics in the output voltage of ferrite core transformer. For this purpose, useful expressions for the susceptibilities are derived and as example, numerical values of the largest nonlinear susceptibilities those of the third and fifth orders are calculated. Dynamics of quantum discord of two coupled spin-1/2’s subjected to time-dependent magnetic fields

Abstract We describe the dynamics of quantum discord of two interacting spin-1/2’s subjected to controllable time-dependent magnetic fields. The exact time evolution of discord is given for various input mixed states consisting of classical mixtures of two Bell states. The quantum discord manifests a complex oscillatory behaviour in time and is compared with that of quantum entanglement, measured by concurrence. The interplay of the action of the time-dependent magnetic fields and the spin-coupling mechanism in the occurrence and evolution of quantum correlations is examined in detail.

Numerical values of MnZn ferrite nonlinear susceptibilities in a lossless approximation

On the basis of expressions for nonlinear magnetic susceptibilities of soft ferrites obtained earlier the analysis of phase shifts between components of flux density on different frequencies and the magnetic field strength is carried out. Only the largest nonlinear susceptibilities those of third and fifth order are considered. It is shown that in the frequency range where losses are small and can be neglected the susceptibility of third order is negative but that of fifth order is positive. Double resonance response in nonlinear magnetic vortex dynamics

We present experimental evidences for the dynamical bifurcation behavior of ac-driven magnetic vortex core gyration in a ferromagnetic disk. The dynamical bifurcation, i.e., appearance and disappearance of two stable dynamical states in the vortex gyration, occurring as the amplitude of the driving Oersted field increases to ${B}_{Oe}g{B}_{Oe}^{cr}$, manifests itself in a double resonance response in the dependence of homodyne the dc-voltage signal on the frequency $\ensuremath{\omega}$ of the applied microwave current. Electromagnetically induced switching of ferroelectric thin films

We analyze the interaction of an electromagnetic spike (one cycle) with a thin layer of ferroelectric medium with two equilibrium states. The model is the set of Maxwell equations coupled to the undamped Landau-Khalatnikov equation, where we do not assume slowly varying envelopes. From linear-scattering theory, we show that low-amplitude pulses can be completely reflected by the medium. Large-amplitude pulses can switch the ferroelectric. Using numerical simulations and analysis, we study this switching for long and short pulses, estimate the switching times, and provide useful information for experiments.

Reversed polarized emission in highly strained a-plane GaN/AlN multiple quantum wells

The polarization of the emission from a set of highly strained $a$-plane GaN/AlN multiple quantum wells of varying well widths has been studied. A single photoluminescence peak is observed that shifts to higher energies as the quantum well thickness decreases due to quantum confinement. The emitted light is linearly polarized. For the thinnest samples the preferential polarization direction is perpendicular to the wurtzite $c$ axis with a degree of polarization that decreases with increasing well width. Magnetic properties of exciton trapped by an off-center ionized donor in single quantum dot

Abstract It is known that the lines of exciton (X) and exciton trapped by an ionized donor ( D + , X ) are often very close which makes very difficult their experimental identification. In order to facilitate their distinction in spherical quantum dots, we investigate the effect of an applied magnetic field studying the binding energy of the complex ( D + , X ) as function of dot size and the ionized donor position. Our calculation is using a variational approach taking into account the interactions between all charge carriers. Switching by Domain-Wall Automotion in Asymmetric Ferromagnetic Rings

A ring-shaped magnetic logic device offers two vortex states (clockwise and counterclockwise) to encode bits, with relative stability against external magnetic fields. The dynamics of magnetization switching in such structures, though, still need unraveling. The authors present direct experimental visualization of reproducible, robust switching in magnetic rings via domain-wall automotion, which does not require an applied field. Simulations reveal that annihilation of domain walls through automotion always occurs, with the detailed topology of the walls only influencing the dynamics locally, in line with the experimental results.

Scaling up electrically synchronized spin torque oscillator networks

AbstractSynchronized nonlinear oscillators networks are at the core of numerous families of applications including phased array wave generators and neuromorphic pattern matching systems. In these devices, stable synchronization between large numbers of nanoscale oscillators is a key issue that remains to be demonstrated. Here, we show experimentally that synchronized spin-torque oscillator networks can be scaled up. By increasing the number of synchronized oscillators up to eight, we obtain that the emitted power and the quality factor increase linearly with the number of oscillators.
