Greenfield or M&A? An institutional and learning perspective on the establishment mode choice of Chinese outward investments

Abstract We develop and test a model of Chinese greenfield investments using institutional and learning theories. Both the host country institutional context and the firm's international characteristics affect the establishment mode. Using 152 Chinese emerging market multinationals (EMNEs) with 401 subsidiaries distributed in 26 countries from 2003 to 2013, we build a database of 284 pairs of host country/Chinese firms to test two hypotheses. Extending the Tsetlin Machine With Integer-Weighted Clauses for Increased Interpretability

Despite significant effort, building models that are both interpretable and accurate is an unresolved challenge for many pattern recognition problems. In general, rule-based and linear models lack accuracy, while deep learning interpretability is based on rough approximations of the underlying inference. Using a linear combination of conjunctive clauses in propositional logic, Tsetlin Machines (TMs) have shown competitive performance on diverse benchmarks. A rule‐based method to model myocardial fiber orientation in cardiac biventricular geometries with outflow tracts

Rule-based methods are often used for assigning fiber orientation to cardiac anatomical models. However, existing methods have been developed using data mostly from the left ventricle. As a consequence, fiber information obtained from rule-based methods often does not match histological data in other areas of the heart such as the right ventricle, having a negative impact in cardiac simulations beyond the left ventricle. Implementing a Margolus Neighborhood Cellular Automata on a FPGA

Margolus neighborhood is the easiest form of designing Cellular Automata Rules with features such as invertibility or particle conserving. In this paper we introduce a notation to describe completely a rule based on this neighborhood and implement it in two ways: The first corresponds to a classical RAM-based implementation, while the second, based on concurrent cells, is useful for smaller systems in which time is a critical parameter. This implementation has the feature that the evolution of all the cells in the design is performed in the same clock cycle.

A configurable rule based classful token bucket filter network request scheduler for the lustre file system

HPC file systems today work in a best-effort manner where individual applications can flood the file system with requests, effectively leading to a denial of service for all other tasks. This paper presents a classful Token Bucket Filter (TBF) policy for the Lustre file system. The TBF enforces Remote Procedure Call (RPC) rate limitations based on (potentially complex) Quality of Service (QoS) rules. Fast Image Restoration Algorithms Based on PDE Models Using Modified Hopfield Neural Network

Two image restoration algorithms based on modified Hop field neural network and variational partial differential equations (PDE) were proposed in our previous work [1, 2]. But the convergence rate of the proposed algorithms was slow. In this paper, we develop a fast update rule based on modified Hop field neural network (MHNN) of continuous state change and two fast image restoration algorithms. Experimental results show that, when compared with the previous algorithms, our proposed algorithms have better performance both in convergence rate and in image restoration quality.
