Invasive catfish in northern Italy and their impacts on waterbirds

2022

Predatory fish have occasionally been observed preying on birds, sometimes repeatedly, but few studies were able to unravel the overall significance of avian prey in fish diet and the predation impacts on bird populations. We used a control/impact study setup, using a Nature Reserve in northern Italy and a nearby control area, to determine: 1) the contribution of waterbirds to wels catfish diet in the Reserve, 2) the population density of wels catfish in the Reserve and control area and 3) the potential impacts of waterbird depredation by wels catfish on waterbird population trends. Our stable isotope Bayesian mixing model indicated that birds contributed 12.2% (5–27.9%, 50% confidence inte…

Effect of Combining Impact-Aerobic and Strength Exercise, and Dietary Habits on Body Composition in Breast Cancer Survivors Treated with Aromatase In…

2023

This study examines both the effect of a twice-weekly combined exercise—1 h session of strength and 1 h session of impact-aerobic—on body composition and dietary habits after one year of treatment with aromatase inhibitors (AI) in breast cancer survivors. Overall, forty-three postmenopausal women with a BMI ≤ 35 kg/m2, breast cancer survivors treated with AI, were randomized into two groups: a control group (CG) (n = 22) and a training group (IG) (n = 21). Body composition, i.e., abdominal, visceral, and subcutaneous adipose tissue) was measured by magnetic resonance. In addition, some questionnaires were used to gather dietary data and to measure adherence to the Mediterranean diet. After …

Effect of short-term guided aerobic exercise and diet intervention on overweight women

2010

Abstract Effect of Short-Term Guided Aerobic Exercise and Diet Intervention on Overweight Women Kauko, Kirsi LLTS007 Master’s Thesis of Sport Medicine University of Jyväskylä, Faculty of Sport and Health Sciences, Department of Health Sciences Spring 2010, 68 pages, 6 appendices Overweight or obese persons have substantially increased risk for multiple chronic disorders, for example type 2 diabetes (T2D), dyslipidemia, hypertension and cardiovascular disease (CVD). Physical activity or exercise has an important role in the prevention and treatment of obesity related illnesses, for example T2D, CVD and metabolic syndrome (MetS). The main goal of this Master’s thesis is to study the possible …

What is (not) the point of just transition in food systems?

2022

Food systems are confronted with a low-carbon transition challenge. The need for significant emission reductions in industrial food systems implies significant systemic transformations in food production, processing, and consumption. The wide-reaching impacts of such transformations have evoked public discussion and academic research on just transition in food systems. The undisputable legitimacy of the idea of just transition makes it an attractive concept for all food system actors who might be affected by low-carbon transition policies in direct and indirect ways. Some of the claims that are being made are warranted claims for justice, some merely defend the achieved privileges and benef…

Associations of dietary carbohydrate and fatty acid intakes with cognition among children

2020

Objective: To investigate the cross-sectional associations of dietary carbohydrate and fatty acid intakes with cognition in mid-childhood. Design: Dietary carbohydrate and fatty acid intakes were assessed using 4-d food records, and cognition was evaluated using the Raven’s Coloured Progressive Matrices (RCPM) score. The cross-sectional associations of dietary carbohydrate and fatty acid intakes with cognition were investigated using linear regression analyses adjusted for age, sex, body fat percentage, household income, parental education and daily energy intake. Setting: The baseline examinations of the Physical Activity and Nutrition in Children study. Participants: A population-based sa…

It Wetted my Appetite! Demographic Differences in Perceiving Gastronomy Content on Social Media : A Study of Fast Foods Restaurants in Port Harcourt

2017

Fast food chains have emerged to be a dominant sector in the Nigerian retail industry, contributing to employment generation and the nation’s GDP. In the face of dynamic competitive business landscape, this sector has continuously relied on the traditional method of communicating, engaging and retaining customers. This anachronistic approach has cut them from a profitable customer segment which relies heavily on ICT tools such as social media. Thus, the aim of this study is to examine the differences in the rate fast food chains utilize social media through professionally handling posting of gastronomy content on their social media pages. Utilising gastronomy as an emerging concept and/or t…

Case study of Adumanu M/A and Ayaasi D/A primary schools

2014

This study seeks to investigate the school leadership views on the impact of the Ghana National School Feeding Programme (GNSFP). The qualitative methodology was utilized. The data were collected with semi-structured focus group interviews in two primary schools. The informants were members of the five leadership groups of each school. Thematic coding and network analysis were used to answer the three research questions. The results reveal that the school feeding programme has a positive impact on school enrolment, attendance and retention as well as heath issues such as the nutrition quality improving cognitive skills, and minimizing HIV/Aids. Further, the results show that the programme m…

Happamuutta ja emäksisyyttä tuottava ravinto ja 12 viikon yhdistetty kestävyys- ja voimaharjoittelu miehillä ja naisilla : vaikutukset kehonkoostumuk…

2013

Johdanto.

Manoeuvring between regulations to achieve locally accepted results : analysis of school meals in Latvia and Finland

2018

Rather than having a consistent food policy, countries often tend to regulate food from the margins of other policy domains such as agricultural, environmental, welfare or educational policies. Regulatory interventions perceive food as an instrument rather than a domain with its own specific set of policy issues and view food provision as an activity to achieve certain economic, social and environmental objectives. This fragments the food policy into disintegrated points of interventions from various policy areas and leaves unregulated voids that can be exploited either to improve or to reduce the effectiveness of the interventions. This article explores interlinkages between fragmented pol…
