Pedagoginen pesusieni Orff-kylvyssä
2017
Kandidaatin tutkielmassani käsittelen Orff-pedagogiikkaa ja opettajuutta. Työni on teoriapohjainen kirjallisuuskatsaus. Lähden liikkeelle Orff-pedagogiikan yleiskatsauksesta, johon sisältyy Orff-soittimiston ja Orff-pedagogisen opetusprosessin esittely. Kolmannessa luvussa esittelen JaSeSoi ry:n Orff-kursseilla käytetyn musiikkipedagogisen koulutusohjelman opetussuunnitelman. Luvussa neljä kirjoitan kehorytmiikan kiehtovasta maailmasta seminaarityöni pohjalta. Aihe on nivottu luontevaksi osaksi tämän tutkielman Orff-henkistä kokonaisuutta. Viides luku on omistettu perusopetuksen uudelle opetussuunnitelmalle ja sen mahdollistamille Orff-sovelluksille alakoulussa. Samaan hengenvetoon nostan e…
A conceptual discussion of embodiment in special music education : Dalcroze Eurhythmics as a case
2017
Students with Special Educational Needs (SEN) have difficulties in learning, perception and communication that often pose challenges for participation in traditionally organised music lessons with instruments. Embodied approaches to music education concentrate on utilising body movements to create and enhance learning. As embodied musical activities are drawn from the personal experiences of the students, it is possible to meet the diverse needs of learners efficiently. In this article, we provide introductory remarks on the conceptual content and sphere of embodiment in the context of special music education. We use Dalcroze Eurhythmics as an example, as it is deeply grounded in embodied m…
Sleep and alertness in shift work disorder: findings of a field study
2018
Purpose Although shift work disorder (SWD) affects a major part of the shift working population, little is known about its manifestation in real life. This observational field study aimed to provide a detailed picture of sleep and alertness among shift workers with a questionnaire-based SWD, by comparing them to shift workers without SWD during work shifts and free time. Methods SWD was determined by a questionnaire. Questionnaires and 3-week field monitoring, including sleep diaries, actigraphy, the Karolinska Sleepiness Scale (KSS), EEG-based sleep recordings, and Psychomotor Vigilance Tasks (PVT), were used to study 22 SWD cases and 9 non-SWD workers. Results The SWD group had a shorter …

Multiple paths to cold tolerance: the role of environmental cues, morphological traits and the circadian clock gene vrille
2021
AbstractBackgroundTracing the association between insect cold tolerance and latitudinally and locally varying environmental conditions, as well as key morphological traits and molecular mechanisms, is essential for understanding the processes involved in adaptation. We explored these issues in two closely-related species, Drosophila montana and Drosophila flavomontana, originating from diverse climatic locations across several latitudes on the coastal and mountainous regions of North America. We also investigated the association between sequence variation in one of the key circadian clock genes, vrille, and cold tolerance in both species. Finally, we studied the impact of vrille on fly cold…
Photosensitive Alternative Splicing of the Circadian Clock Gene timeless Is Population Specific in a Cold-Adapted Fly, Drosophila montana.
2018
To function properly, organisms must adjust their physiology, behavior and metabolism in response to a suite of varying environmental conditions. One of the central regulators of these changes is organisms' internal circadian clock, and recent evidence has suggested that the clock genes are also important in the regulation of seasonal adjustments. In particular, thermosensitive splicing of the core clock gene timeless in a cosmopolitan fly, Drosophila melanogaster , has implicated this gene to be involved in thermal adaptation. To further investigate this link we examined the splicing of timeless in a northern malt fly species, <i&…

Suunnistuksen keskimatkan lajianalyysi ja yhden kauden valmennuksen ohjelmointi
2012
Lajianalyysiosio syventyy suunnistuksen matkoista keskimatkan vaatimusten tarkasteluun. Keskimatka eroaa mm. kestoltaan, biomekaanisilta ominaisuuksiltaan, taktiikaltaan sekä hahmotuskyvyn osalta suunnistuksen muista matkoista. Nykyajan huippusuunnistuksessa taso on kova ja koventuu koko ajan. Kansainvälisellä huipulla mennään ketterästi, vauhdikkaasti ja kestävästi eikä virheitä enää juurikaan tehdä. On löydettävä yksilöllinen elämäniloinen reitti, jotta huippu voidaan saavuttaa.

Speed on the dance floor : auditory and visual cues for musical tempo
2016
Musical tempo is most strongly associated with the rate of the beat or “tactus,” which may be defined as the most prominent rhythmic periodicity present in the music, typically in a range of 1.67–2 Hz. However, other factors such as rhythmic density, mean rhythmic inter-onset interval, metrical (accentual) structure, and rhythmic complexity can affect perceived tempo (Drake et al., 1999 and London, 2011Drake, Gros, & Penel, 1999; London, 2011). Visual information can also give rise to a perceived beat/tempo (Iversen, et al., 2015), and auditory and visual temporal cues can interact and mutually influence each other (Soto-Faraco and Kingstone, 2004 and Spence, 2015). A five-part experiment w…
