RGB imaging of laser-excited skin autofluorescence bleaching rates

2010

In-vivo skin photo-bleaching (intensity decrease during irradiation) has been investigated at 405 nm cw laser excitation. Digital RGB photo-camera was used for studies of the bleaching features by analysis of fluorescent images at separated R, G and B spectral bands. Diagnostic potential based on correlations between skin pigmentation and bleaching rates is discussed.

Volcanic CO2 measurements at Campi Flegrei by Infrared Tunable Diode Laser absorption Spectroscopy

2014

Gas studies add information for the interpretation of fluid circulation dynamics at dormant volcanoes and can contribute to eruption forecasting. Direct in-situ and remote-sensing techniques were used in order to improve volcanic gas monitoring, essential for hazard assessment. In the last decades, near-infrared diode lasers have increasingly been used in atmospheric research and, though in an experimental phase, are now finding applications in volcanic gas studies. The Tunable Diode Laser Spectroscopy technique (TDLS) relies on measuring the absorbance at specific wavelengths due to the absorption of IR radiation by a target gas. Here, we report on the application of the GasFinder 2.0, an …

The dropout problem in University Study

2014

Responsibilities for just transition to low-carbon societies : a role-based framework

2022

Low-carbon transitions in industrialised societies will have significant social, economic and environmental impacts, raising concerns of justice. Calls for urgent transitions evoke a question about the roles of different actors in advancing transitions and ensuring they are just. While the responsibilities for emission mitigation have been long discussed, responsibilities for making a just transition have not. The question about responsibilities is particularly pressing because of the diverse constellation of actors involved in climate action, including diverse forms of non-state actors from city-level and business alliances to grassroots activists. We examine the responsibilities of state …

Energy Management and Smart Grids

2013

The paper outlines energy management concepts and the smart grid evolution. The necessity of considering energy management as a crucial innovation in load supplying to permit a more powerful penetration of renewable energy usage at the building and city level and to perform energy savings and CO2 emissions reduction is pointed out. The driving factors to enhance the current power distribution are presented, and the benefits concerning smart grids are underlined. In the paper, a specific energy management analysis is reported by considering all the electric value chain, and the demand-side management and distributed on site control actions are described. To verify the benefit of energy manag…

Twenty Years of Airborne Water Vapor and Total Water Measurements of a Diode Laser Based Photoacoustic Instruments

2020

We present relevant issues collected over twenty years of development and operation of an airborne water vapour / total water detector based on photoacoustic spectroscopy. The WaSulHygro instrument possesses high selectivity, short response time, and wide dynamic range, that are key requirements against trace gas measurement systems for applications in atmospheric sciences. Besides the major properties of WaSul-Hygro we discuss our efforts to develop a robust instruments that have proved its long-term reliability over the last fifteen years operating on-board a commercial aircraft within the framework of the CARIBIC project.2

ESTUDIO DEL EFECTO INFORMATIVO DEL ANUNCIO DE BENEFICIOS TRIMESTRALES

2005

In this research we investigate whether quarterly earnings announcements are informative using awide sample of firms listed in the Spanish Stock Market (SIBE). We study the period comprised between thethird quarterly of 2002 and the fourth quarterly of 2003. We analyse whether abnormal returns are related tothe quarter in which the announcement is released, whether the announcement implies good or bad news forthe firm, the source of the information, the size of the firm and whether the firm is followed by analysts. Results show that quarterly earnings announcements are informative. We also obtain evidence of a possibleuse of insider information in the case of the announcements disclosed in t…

Implementing Intranet 2.0: A Study of Knowledge Requirements for External Consultants in Enterprise Systems

2014

Published article from the series: Procedia Technology. Also available on Science Direct: http://dx.doi.org/10.1016/j.protcy.2014.10.018 Open Access This paper reports on a case study focusing on intranet implementation projects seen from a consultancy lens. SharePoint is an Intranet 2.0 platform which is a user-centric system based on functionalities adapted from Web 2.0 technologies. Intranet implementation projects are accompanied by a complex socio-technical organizational environment, and require changes in organizational structure and culture. While former studies mainly have focused on challenges seen from the implementing organization's perspective, this study focuses on the experie…

All-Fiber Laser With Intracavity Acousto-Optic Dynamic Mode Converter for Efficient Generation of Radially Polarized Cylindrical Vector Beams

2017

We report an all-fiber laser that emits a radially polarized cylindrical vector beam (CVB) at 1 μm based on an intracavity acousto-optic mode converter. We efficiently generate the CVB, taking advantage of the acousto-optic coupling from the HE11 mode to the TM01 mode in a two-mode fiber. The laser can be switched from emitting a Gaussian-like beam to a radially polarized CVB. Radially polarized CVBs with modal and polarization purities >98% and a maximum power of 65 mW were generated.

Data from: The legacy of a vanished sea: a high level of diversification within a European freshwater amphipod species complex driven by 15 My of Par…

2015

The formation of continental Europe in the Neogene was due to the regression of the Tethys Ocean and of the Paratethys Sea. The dynamic geology of the area and repetitious transitions between marine and freshwater conditions presented opportunities for the colonization of newly emerging hydrological networks and diversification of aquatic biota. Implementing mitochondrial and nuclear markers in conjunction with a large-scale sampling strategy, we investigated the impact of this spatiotemporal framework on the evolutionary history of a freshwater crustacean morphospecies. The Gammarus balcanicus species complex is widely distributed in the area previously occupied by the Paratethys Sea. Our …
