Embedded neural network system for microorganisms growth analysis

This study presents autonomous system for microorganisms’ growth analysis in laboratory environment. As shown in previous research, laser speckle analysis allows detecting submicron changes of substrate with growing bacteria. By using neural networks for speckle analysis, it is possible to develop autonomous system, that can evaluate microorganisms’ growth by using cheap optics and electronics elements. System includes embedded processing module, CMOS camera, 670nm laser diode and optionally WiFi module for connecting to external image storage system. Thermal sprayed coatings for protection against cavitation erosion

In order to protect the hydraulic components from cavitation erosion phenomena, the parts are often coated by thermal spraying. Buck YSZ shows an excellent performance against cavitation erosion. However, the cavitation erosion resistance of YSZ coatings have vaguely been studied. Therefore, in this study, YSZ were manufactured with different thermal spraying processes and post-treated by laser remelting, then they were subjected to cavitation tests according to ASTM G32.The YSZ coating was first manufactured by atmospheric plasma spraying (APS). Robotic Platform for Automated Search and Rescue Missions of Humans

We present a novel type of model incorporating a special remote life signals sensing optical system on top of a controllable robotic platform. The remote sensing system consists of a laser and a camera. By properly adapting our optics and by applying a proper image processing algorithm we can sense within the field of view, illuminated by the laser and imaged by the camera, the heartbeats and the blood pulse pressure of subjects (even several simultaneously). The task is to use the developed robotic system for search and rescue mission such as saving survivals from a fire.

Joint Audit, Audit Market Structure, and Consumer Surplus

We use a structural application of the discrete choice model to investigate how the introduction of a joint audit policy would affect audit market structure and consumer surplus. We perform this policy evaluation by identifying demand fundamentals in a joint audit regime and applying them to a single audit regime. We find that a joint audit requirement has the potential to change the audit market structure substantially but that the effects are sensitive to the specific policy design. New faunal and floral records from Ocean Drilling Project Hole 963A, resolved at ?80-year spacing, provide evidence of suborbital scale climate variability in the central Mediterranean Sea throughout Marine Isotope Stage (MIS) 5. Cold events in the central Mediterranean Sea, indicated by low abundances of warm species and high abundances of cold species, are also evident in a planktonic foraminifera paleoclimatic curve. COMPARING PARTICLE SIZE DISTRIBUTION ANALYSIS BY SEDIMENTATION AND LASER DIFFRACTION METHOD

In this paper a brief review of the laser diffraction method is firstly carried out. Then, for 30 soil samples having a different texture classification sampled in Sicilian basin, a comparison between the two techniques is developed. The analysis demonstrated that the sand content measured by Sieve-Hydrometer method can be assumed equal to the one determinated by laser diffraction technique while an overestimation of the clay fraction measured by Sieve-Hydrometer method respect to laser diffraction technique was obtained. Finally a set of equations useful to refer LD measurements to SH method was proposed.
