The Assessment of Serum Concentrations of AGEs and Their Soluble Receptor (sRAGE) in Multiple Sclerosis Patients

2021

Background: Advanced glycation end products (AGEs) are involved in the pathogenesis of many diseases, including neurodegenerative diseases such as multiple sclerosis (MS). The aim of the study was to determine serum concentrations of AGEs and their soluble receptor (sRAGE) in MS patients and healthy controls and to investigate their possible influence on disease activity. Methods: Serum concentrations of AGE and sRAGE in patients with MS and healthy controls were determined by enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay (ELISA). Results: The mean serum AGE concentration in patients with MS was higher than in healthy controls, whereas the mean serum sRAGE concentration was lower than in the control gr…

Decreased plasma soluble RAGE in patients with hypercholesterolemia: Effects of statins

2007

The receptor for advanced glycation endproducts (RAGE) is overexpressed at sites of vascular pathology. A soluble RAGE isoform (sRAGE) neutralizes the ligand-mediated damage by acting as a decoy. We hypothesized that in hypercholesterolemia up-regulation of the ligand-RAGE axis may bridge impairment of nitric oxide biosynthesis with oxidative stress. We measured in 60 hypercholesterolemic patients and 20 controls plasma total sRAGE levels, urinary 8-iso-prostaglandin (PG) F(2alpha) excretion, and plasma levels of asymmetric dimethylarginine (ADMA). The effects of two structurally different statins (pravastatin and atorvastatin) on these parameters were analyzed in 20 hypercholesterolemic su…

Correlation of endogenous secretory receptor for advanced glycation end product (esRAGE) with metabolic health related biomarkers of skeletal muscle

2016

Pajari, J. 2016. Sisäeritteisen AGE-reseptorin (esRAGE) yhteys luurankolihaksen metaboliseen terveyteen liittyviin biologisiin merkkitekijöihin. Terveystieteiden laitos, Jyväskylän yliopisto, Liikuntalääketieteen pro gradu –tutkielma, 63 sivua. Monet säännöllisen fyysisen aktiivisuuden terveyshyödyt välittyvät parantuneen liikuntaan liittyvään oksidatiivisen kapasiteetin kautta, jolla on vahva yhteys luurankolihaksen aineenvaihduntaan, pitkäikäisyyteen ja yleiseen terveyteen. Sisäeritteinen AGE-reseptori (esRAGE) on merkittävä liukoisen AGE-reseptorin (sRAGE) muoto, joka on mahdollinen kroonisiin sairauksiin liittyvä biologinen merkkitekijä. Tutkimukset ovat osoittaneet AGE-sRAGE-RAGE reiti…
