In 2004 and in 2008, the author conducted ethnographic research in Catania (Southern Italy) on one of the most important religious feasts in honor of Saint Agatha. This chapter relates Agatha's story, which is that of a Sicilian virgin martyr persecuted in the fourth century by a Roman proconsul. At the feast of St. Agatha, the three elements: the extra-ecclesial nature of popular religiosity, the transmission of knowledge through vehicles other than seminaries and other official religious institutions, and the expression of popular religiosity with signs and symbols that transmit the presence of the supernatural in everyday life, can be found. Abstract In the present paper we study the propagation of pressure waves in a barotropic flow through a pipe, with a possibly varying cross-sectional area. The basic model is the Saint–Venant system. We derive two multiscale models for the cases of weak and strong damping, respectively, which describe the time evolution of the piezometric head and the velocity. If the damping is weak, then the corresponding first-order hyperbolic system is linear but contains an additional integro-differential equation that takes into account the damping. This paper is dedicated to the defence of the variant "Polidarius" (and not the correction in the vulgate "Podalirius") that occurs in all the manuscripts of Henry of Septimello's «Elegia» (book IV, line 209). "Polidarius", however, has many attestations in Medieval Troy literary tradition (Joseph of Exeter, Benoît de Sainte-Maure, Guido delle Colonne) and is an alternative, correct and good name for the famous mythical doctor, son of Asclepius and brother of Machaon.

Heterogeneous contributions of change in population distribution of body mass index to change in obesity and underweight

From 1985 to 2016, the prevalence of underweight decreased, and that of obesity and severe obesity increased, in most regions, with significant variation in the magnitude of these changes across regions. We investigated how much change in mean body mass index (BMI) explains changes in the prevalence of underweight, obesity, and severe obesity in different regions using data from 2896 population-based studies with 187 million participants. Changes in the prevalence of underweight and total obesity, and to a lesser extent severe obesity, are largely driven by shifts in the distribution of BMI, with smaller contributions from changes in the shape of the distribution. This paper centers on the role of narratives in business history from an ANTi-History perspective. We focus on the networked processes through which narratives are told of, for, and by multi-national companies embed the development of ‘new imperialism’ and coloniality. We set out to achieve this through a discussion and application of ANTi-History to a study of Pan American Airways and particularly its performance as a maturing multi-national company and its relationship to postcoloniality.
