Parenting culture(s): Ideal-parent beliefs across 37 countries

What is it to be “an ideal parent”? Does the answer differ across countries and social classes? To answer these questions in a way that minimizes bias and ethnocentrism, we used open-ended questions to explore ideal-parent beliefs among 8,357 mothers and 3,517 fathers from 37 countries. Leximancer Semantic Network Analysis was utilized to first determine parenting culture zones (i.e., countries with shared ideal-parent beliefs) and then extract the predominant themes and concepts in each culture zone. The author describes the role of religiousness of the members of The Company of the Daughters of Charity of Saint Vincent de Paul according to intemal normative acts of the society. Prayers and religious services were the backbone of sisters’ day schedule which, on the other hand, was subjected to their nursery duties. A sister who was religiously well-rounded should be compassionate, cheerful, humbie and prudent. The article describes sisters’ religious practices, as well as the practices that were directed towards the patients. Curcumin and genistein are two natural products obtained from Curcuma longa L. and soybeans, endowed with many biological properties. Within the last years they were shown to possess also a promising antitrypanosomal activity. In the present paper, we investigated the activity of both curcumin and genistein against rhodesain, the main cysteine protease of Trypanosoma brucei rhodesiense; drug combination studies, according to Chou and Talalay method, allowed us to demonstrate a potent synergistic effect for the combination curcumin-genistein. Tarkastelun kohteena on myös työntekijöiden henkilökohtainen suhtautuminen monikulttuuriseen viestintään ja omaan suoriutumiseen. Tutkimukseni taustalla on halu ymmärtää, miten suomalaisyritysten kansainvälinen viestintä rakentuu ja minkälaisia velvoitteita ja vaatimuksia se asettaa työntekijöille. In empirical macroeconomics, inter-dependencies between countries are often analysed using cross-country correlations or graphical investigation of time series. This study shows that applying an alternative methodological approach - identification of common unobservable factors and using them as explanatory variables for country-specific time series - indicates a stronger cross-country integration of functional income distributions than the standard methods. The results vary only little between different samples, where both the country and year coverage change.
