Objectives: To validate the effectiveness of the original standards of True Vertical (TV) Subnasal Line in orthognatic surgery planning. The present study evaluates the changes occurring in patients with skeletal Class II alterations programmed for orthognathic surgery with a view to improving their facial profile. Jacopo Salemi, architetto e scultore proveniente dalla città di Castrogiovanni, il giorno 8 novembre 1563 a Catania, sottoscrive un contratto con la congregazione dei monaci benedettini per la costruzione di un modello in legno della chiesa San Nicolò l’Arena che si stava costruendo dal 1558 sul confine ovest della città. Il documento che regola l’incarico tra Salemi e i benedettini è datato 24 febbraio 1564 ed è custodito presso l’Archivio di Stato di Catania; tale documento rivela che il modello realizzato da Salemi sarebbe stato valutato da due esperti incaricati provenienti dalla città di Messina. An updated overview of the outcome of studies conducted on the culinary-medicinal mushroom Pleurotus nebrodensis is presented by placing emphasis on the clarification of the taxonomic identity of P. nebrodensis and other related taxa possessing entirely white to cream basidiomes, which grow in association with different plants of the family Apiaceae. Cultivation techniques, quality of the product sold and sales price, as well as nutritional and medicinal aspects are discussed. Electrochemistry-based chemotaxonomy in plants using the voltammetry of microparticles methodology

A methodology for characterizing vegetal taxonomic groups using microextraction-assisted voltammetry of microparticles is described. It is based on recording the voltammetric response of microparticulate films of polyphenolic compounds of leaf extracts using different organic solvents. As a result, characteristic voltammetric profiles, tentatively defining an electrochemolomic response, are obtained. Bivariant and multivariant chemometric evaluation of the voltammetric responses of such films allows characterizing vegetal families. Analysis of voltammetric responses for a set of species of the Rosales order suggests that electrochemical data can be correlated with phylogenetic trees.

Abstract The interaction between native calf thymus deoxyribonucleic acid (DNA) and Fe III - N , N ′ -ethylene-bis (salicylideneiminato)-chloride, Fe(Salen)Cl, was investigated in aqueous solutions by UV–visible (UV–vis) absorption, circular dichroism (CD), thermal denaturation and viscosity measurements. The results obtained from CD, UV–vis and viscosity measurements exclude DNA intercalation and can be interpreted in terms of an electrostatic binding between the Fe(Salen) + cation and the phosphate groups of DNA. Genomic reaction norms represent the range of gene expression phenotypes (usually mRNA transcript levels) expressed by a genotype along an environmental gradient. Reaction norms derived from common-garden experiments are powerful approaches for disentangling plastic and adaptive responses to environmental change in natural populations.
