2016

Saverio Mattei (1742-1795) was a very eclectic figure in the context of the Neapolitan culture in the second half of the eighteenth century. The article illustrates and discusses the librettos he wrote to solemnize the birthdays of the King of Spain Charles III, the King of Naples Ferdinand IV and his wife Maria Carolina of Austria. The special dramatic works requested in these occasions, called “prologhi”, were performed in the San Carlo theatre before the opera, and consisted of short actions for three characters alluding to the festive circumstances. Mattei was conscious of the risk of boredom inherent in the celebratory genre, so he tried to make more interesting his pièces by adopting …

Utilisation of natural carotenoids from Momordica cochinchinensis (gac) as health compounds : extraction and bioactvity depending on the origin and o…

2014

The aril of Momordica cochinchinensis (gac), plant from the Cucurbitaceae family, is the richest source of lycopene and β-carotene, which are a strong antioxidant and a pro-vitamin A, respectively, interesting for health-complements. First, a process of soft extraction-fractionation was developed for extracting effectively the natural carotenoids from gac without loss of their original quality. Then, the lycopene and β-carotene extracted from gac were analyzed and characterized. At least 95% of the extracts were composed of the all-trans isomer. They were not degraded during the heat-treatment mimicking formulation processing. Their thermal stereo-mutation was evaluated. Lycopene is more an…

EPIDEMIOLOGY OF BOUTONNEUSE FEVER IN WESTERN SICILY

1986

The distribution and prevalence of spotted fever group rickettsial infection in the ixodid dog tick Rhipicephalus sanguineus were found to occur at a rate of 19.7% with variation related to geographic and sociooccupational factors. A higher rate of infection was demonstrated in ticks removed from dogs associated with documented cases of boutonneuse fever. The results fit into available clinical and seroepidemiologic data on Rickettsia conorii infection in western Sicily.

Résistances aux herbicides : les estivales en force !

2015

Volatile constituents of aerial parts of three endemicCentaureaspecies from Turkey:Centaurea amanicolaHub.-Mor.,CentaureaconsanguineaDC. andCentaurea…

2008

The volatile constituents of the aerial parts of Centaurea amanicola Hub.-Mor., Centaurea consanguinea DC. and Centaurea ptosimopappa Hayek were extracted by hydrodistillation and analysed by GC and GC–MS. Altogether 94 components were identified. Sesquiterpenoids, fatty acids and carbonylic compounds were the most abundant components in the oils. Hexadecanoic acid and (Z,Z )-9,12-octadecadienoic acid were the main fatty acids in all the examined samples, that showed different patterns of composition. The study on the biological activity of the oils showed an action mainly against the Gram-positive pathogens.
