Tras un breve paseo por la historia de la Medicina hasta llegar, al período de la Ilustración y con ella al método científico en el curar, que en un principio se denomina higiene después medicina preventiva y ya en el siglo XX atención primaria de salud, medicina de familia o comunitaria, se analiza la influencia que el consumo de drogas y de alcohol -de manera más exhaustiva- tienen en la salud pública.
Estructura sanitaria de atención al tabaquismo

El presente artículo trata de analizar la necesidad de generar una estructura sanitaria de atención al tabaquismo en los distintos departamentos de salud, dependientes de la red pública sanitaria. Esta estructura cobra fuerza y llega a un mayor número de sujetos si se asienta sobre la Atención Primaria de salud, articulándose alrededor de las consultas específicas de tabaquismo en los distintos centros de Salud. Estas consultas deben contar como mínimo con un médico y una enfermera que se dediquen especialmente a atender la consulta al menos 4 horas a la semana. La unidad de conductas adictivas es un recurso asistencial para drogodependientes desde el que mediante un enfoque biopiscosocial se aborda la deshabituación-desintoxicación de sujetos que sufren cualquier subtipo de patología adictiva (abuso/ dependencia).El equipo profesional de la UCA esta compuesto por un médico, un psicólogo y un ATS/ DUE. Objetivo: El objetivo del presente trabajo fue analizar las percepciones y actitudes de los jóvenes de municipios entre 5.000 y 20.000 habitantes de la Comunidad Valenciana respecto al consumo de drogas y su valoración sobre las actuaciones preventivas realizadas.Material y método: Se utilizó el modelo de Estimación Rápida, Intervención y Evaluación, combinando técnicas cuantitativas y cualitativas. Application of the General Model "Biological Nutrient Removal Model No.1" to upgrade two full-scale WWTPs

In this paper, two practical case studies for upgrading two wastewater treatment plants (WWTPs) using the general model BNRM1 (Biological Nutrient Removal Model No. 1) are presented. In the first case study, the Tarragona WWTP was upgraded by reducing the phosphorus load to the anaerobic digester in order to minimize the precipitation problems. Phosphorus load reduction was accomplished by mixing the primary sludge and the secondary sludge and by elutriating the mixed sludge. In the second case study, the Alcantarilla WWTP, the nutrient removal was enhanced by maintaining a relatively low dissolved oxygen concentration in Stage A to maintain the acidogenic bacteria activity. Nitrous oxide emission from a moving bed membrane biofilm reactor: the effect of the sludge retention time

The aim of the present study was to investigate the nitrous oxide (N2O) emissions from a University of Cape Town (UCT) moving bed membrane bioreactor pilot plant. An experimental campaign was carried out during 60 days with three different sludge retention time (SRT). The pilot plant reactor was provided of funnel shape covers that guaranteed gas accumulation in the headspace. The results highlighted that N2O concentrations significantly increased when the biofilm concentrations increased within the aerobic and anoxic compartments. Traditionally the activated sludge process is treated as two stage process. The first stage (aeration basin) is described in terms of biological processes while the description of the second stage concentrates on processes of biomass separation and thickening. The modern approach to the activated sludge process looks at both the biological and the separation stage as one system. For open orchard and vineyard canopies containing significant fractions of exposed soil (>50%), typical of Mediterranean agricultural regions, the energy balance of the vegetation elements is strongly influenced by heat exchange with the bare soil/substrate. For these agricultural systems a "two-source" approach, where radiation and turbulent exchange between the soil and canopy elements are explicitly modelled, appears to be the only suitable methodology for reliably assessing energy fluxes.
