Tämän tutkielman tarkoituksena on selvittää millaisia käännösratkaisuja kääntäjät ovat käyttäneet kulttuuristen viittausten ja sanaleikkien kääntämiseen audiovisuaalisessa aineistossa, joka asettaa kääntämiselle monia haasteita. Tutkimusaineistona on amerikkalainen tv-sarja Gilmoren tytöt (Gilmore Girls), josta tarkastellaan kulttuuriviittauksia seitsemästä jaksosta ja sanaleikkejä 14 jaksosta. Tutkimuksessa otetaan huomioon sekä ruotsin- että suomenkieliset tekstitykset, jotta saadaan variaatiota mahdollisiin käännösstrategioihin ja voidaan vertailla eroavatko erikieliset tekstitykset käännösmetodien osalta. Bayesian semiparametric long memory models for discretized event data

We introduce a new class of semiparametric latent variable models for long memory discretized event data. The proposed methodology is motivated by a study of bird vocalizations in the Amazon rain forest; the timings of vocalizations exhibit self-similarity and long range dependence. This rules out Poisson process based models where the rate function itself is not long range dependent. The proposed class of FRActional Probit (FRAP) models is based on thresholding, a latent process. This latent process is modeled by a smooth Gaussian process and a fractional Brownian motion by assuming an additive structure. A new methodology for automated extraction of repeated patterns in time-series data is presented, aimed in particular at the analysis of musical sequences. The basic principles consists in a search for closed patterns in a multi-dimensional parametric space. It is shown that this basic mechanism needs to be articulated with a periodic pattern discovery system, implying therefore a strict chronological scanning of the time-series data. Thanks to this modelling global pattern filtering may be avoided and rich and highly pertinent results can be obtained. Tämä pro gradu -tutkielma tarkastelee naiskuvaa neljässä japanilaisessa manga-sarjakuvassa, ensimmäisissä osissa kirjasarjoista Naruto (1999-), Fruits Basket (1999-2006), Oh! My Goddess(1988-) ja Happy Mania! (1996-2001). Kyseiset sarjakuvat on valittu sillä perusteella, että ne ovat tunnettuja ja suosittuja esimerkkejä neljästä tärkeästä japanilaisesta ikäluokittelusta – tyttöjen, poikien, nuorten miesten ja naisten manga-sarjakuvista. A Bayesian spatio‐temporal analysis of markets during the Finnish 1860s famine

We develop a Bayesian spatio-temporal model to study pre-industrial grain market integration during the Finnish famine of the 1860s. Our model takes into account several problematic features often present when analysing multiple spatially interdependent time series. For example, compared with the error correction methodology commonly applied in econometrics, our approach allows simultaneous modelling of multiple interdependent time series avoiding cumbersome statistical testing needed to predetermine the market leader as a point of reference.
