Saturation and forward jets in proton-lead collisions at the LHC

We investigate the forward-jet energy spectrum within the Color Glass Condensate framework at 5 TeV center-of-mass energy. In particular, we focus on the kinematic range covered by the CMS-CASTOR calorimeter. We show that our saturation-model calculations are compatible with the CASTOR measurements and that to optimally reproduce the data, effects of multi-parton interactions need to be included. We predict a significant nuclear suppression - reaching down to 50% at the lowest considered jet energies $E_{\rm jet} \sim 500 \, {\rm GeV}$.

Here we asked how starvation and subsequent feeding on different nutritional quality algae influences fatty acid retention, compound-specific isotopic carbon fractionation, and biosynthesis of omega-3 and omega-6 polyunsaturated fatty acids (PUFA) in the relict gammarid amphipod Pallaseopsis quadrispinosa. Phytoplankton synthesizes essential ω-3 and ω-6 polyunsaturated fatty acids (PUFA) for consumers in the aquatic food webs. Only certain phytoplankton taxa can synthesize eicosapentaenoic (EPA; 20:5ω3) and docosahexaenoic acid (DHA; 22:6ω3), whereas all phytoplankton taxa can synthesize shorter-chain ω-3 and ω-6 PUFA. Conjugated linoleic acids (CLA) are positional and geometric isomers of linoleic acid. Inclusion of CLA in the diet provokes a rapid and marked decrease in body weight gain and adiposity in mice leading to a lipoatrophic syndrome. However, CLA supplementation raised fasting blood glucose and insulin concentrations and was associated with severe insulin resistance and liversteatosis. Conflicting results have been reported with regard to reduction of fat mass in humans. Sistemātiskie pārskati par šo problēmu norāda uz atšķirīgām izplatības aplēsēm. Ekonomiskais slogs, sakarā ar urīna nesaturēšanu, ir būtisks visā pasaulē, un progozēts, ka ievērojami palielināsies, iedzīvotājiem novecojot. Urīna nesaturēšanas pilnīgai diagnostiskai būtiska ir arī dzīves kvalitātes novērtēšana. New experimental tools for the characterization of highly overconsolidated clayey materials in unsaturated conditions

This chapter presents some of the experimental facilities that have recently been developed at the EPFL Soil Mechanics Group. Three apparatuses operating in non-isothermal conditions are described in detail: a sorption bench for determining water retention curves, an oedometric cell for analyzing volumetric responses under high vertical loads, and a triaxial cell designed for extreme loading conditions.

[EN] The paper considers the influence of Sylow normalizers, i.e. normalizers of Sylow subgroups, on the structure of finite groups. In the universe of finite soluble groups it is known that classes of groups with nilpotent Hall subgroups for given sets of primes are exactly the subgroup- closed saturated formations satisfying the following property: a group belongs to the class if and only if its Sylow normalizers do so. The paper analyzes the extension of this research to the universe of all finite groups.
