The Storage of Dried Apricots: The Effect of Packaging and Temperature on the Changes of Texture and Moisture

During storage, the packaging material was crucial in the product's moisture variation. The aim of this work was to study the changes of both the moisture content and the texture of dried apricots packaged in two types of containers, namely glass and polypropylene trays, which were thermosealed with two different films and stored at a constant temperature (5, 15, 25 and 35C). The moisture content and texture of the product were analyzed periodically over a period of 12 months. In addition, a differential scanning calorimetry of the product was carried out for a better understanding of the relationship between these parameters. Study of thermal properties of polyethylene and polypropylene nanocomposites with long alkyl chain-substituted POSS fillers

The effect of incorporation of octakis({alkyl}dimethylsiloxy)octasilsesquioxanes molecules with n-octyl, n-octadecyl and 4-methyl-hexyl substituents on thermal properties of polypropylene (PP), low-density polyethylene (LDPE) and high-density polyethylene (HDPE) was investigated. Thermal properties of those composite materials were evaluated by means of the differential scanning calorimetry (DSC) and thermogravimetric analysis (TG) methods. Abstract Polymer solidification under processing conditions is a complex phenomenon in which the kinetics of flow, high thermal gradients and high pressures determine the product morphology. Properties of PP/MWCNT-COOH /PP composites made by melt mixing versus solution cast /melt mixing methods

An approach on improvement of the properties of polypropylene / carbon nanotube (PP/CNT) composites is reported. PP blend compositions with carboxylic acid functionalized multi-walled carbon nanotubes (MWCNT-COOH) at filler content 1.0 wt.% were researched. One part of the composites was manufactured by direct thermoplastic mixing PP with the filler, but the other one was made from solution casted masterbatch with the following thermoplastic mixing. Synthesis and characterization of redox-sensitive polyurethanes based on L-glutathione oxidized and poly(ether ester) triblock copolymers

Abstract Segmented polyurethanes, based on PCL-PEG-PCL copolymers, 1,4-diisocyanatobutane and l -glutathione oxidized, used as chain extender, were synthetized. Multifunctional polyurethane foams with thermal energy storage/release capability

In this work, polyurethane (PU) insulating panels containing different amounts of a microencapsulated paraffin with a nominal melting temperature of 24 °C, used as phase change material (PCM), were produced. The resulting panels behaved as multifunctional materials able to thermally insulate and simultaneously storing/releasing thermal energy near room temperature. Functional size of complement and perforin pores compared by confocal laser scanning microscopy and fluorescence microphotolysis

Abstract Confocal laser scanning microscopy and fluorescence microphotolysis (also referred to as fluorescence photobleaching recovery) were employed to study the transport of hydrophilic fluorescent tracers through complement and perforin pores. By optimizing the confocal effect it was possible to determine the exclusion limit of the pores in situ, i.e. without separation of cells and tracer solution. Single-cell flux measurements by fluorescence microphotolysis yielded information on the sample population distribution of flux rates. Chemical compatibility of bulk alumina in flowing PbLi alloy under magnetic field

Abstract Electrically insulating flow channel inserts (FCI) may be needed in liquid-based breeding blanket concepts to electrically decouple the metal flow from the strong magnetic field in a future fusion reactor. Although the magnetohydrodynamic simulation demonstrates a reduction of the pressure drop when a sandwich-like steel-alumina-steel FCI is employed, the tritium production efficiency in the breeding zone of a breeding blanket is limited to 550 °C due to the steel corrosion. Human parvovirus B19 (B19V) from the erythrovirus genus is known to be a pathogenic virus in humans. Prevalence of B19V infection has been reported worldwide in all seasons, with a high incidence in the spring. B19V is responsible for erythema infectiosum (fifth disease) commonly seen in children. Its other clinical presentations include arthralgia, arthritis, transient aplastic crisis, chronic anemia, congenital anemia, and hydrops fetalis.
