Potential dopamine prodrug-loaded liposomes: preparation, characterization, andin vitrostability studies

Dopamine delivery to the central nervous system (CNS) undergoes the permeability limitations of the blood-brain barrier (BBB). Condensation of dopamine with neutral amino acids could afford potential pro- drugs able to interact with the BBB endogenous transporters and easily enter the brain. To improve the bio-availability of the dopamine prodrug, 2-amino-N-[2-(3,4-dihydroxy-phenyl)-ethyl]-3-phenyl-propionamide (DOPH), it was encapsulated in unilamellar liposomes of dimiristoylphosphatidylcholine (DMPC)and cholesterol. Abstract The release of a nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drug (NSAID), 4-biphenylacetic acid (BPAA), from α,β-poly( N -hydroxyethyl)- dl -aspartamide (PHEA) hydrogels was tested at different pHs (4 and 7.4) by measuring the drug transfer from loaded hydrogel to dimyristoylphosphatidylcholine (DMPC) liposomes (multilamellar vesicles, MLV), chosen as a biomembrane model. The effect of 4-biphenylacetic acid (BPAA) covalently linked to α,β-poly(N-hydroxyethyl)-dl-aspartamide (PHEA) on the thermotropic properties of dipalmitoylphosphatidylcholine (DPPC) liposomes was investigated by differential scanning calorimetry (DSC). Addition of increasing amounts of PHEA-BPAA adduct to a suspension of phospholipid vesicles modified the thermotropic gel-to-liquid crystalline phase transition by decreasing the enthalpy changes ΔH with concomitant broadening of the peak without variations in the transition temperature (Tm). AIM: To assess whether non invasive blood flow measurement by arterial spin labeling in several brain regions detects minimal hepatic encephalopathy. METHODS: Blood flow (BF) was analyzed by arterial spin labeling (ASL) in different brain areas of 14 controls, 24 cirrhotic patients without and 16 cirrhotic patients with minimal hepatic encephalopathy (MHE). Disorder-induced gap in the normal density of states of the organic superconductorκ-(BEDT-TTF)2Cu[N(CN)2]Br

The local density of states (DOS) of the organic superconductor κ-(BEDT-TTF)2Cu[N(CN)2]Br, measured by scanning tunneling spectroscopy on in situ cleaved surfaces, reveals a logarithmic suppression near the Fermi edge persisting above the critical temperature T(c). The experimentally observed suppression of the DOS is in excellent agreement with a soft Hubbard gap as predicted by the Anderson-Hubbard model for systems with disorder. The electronic disorder also explains the diminished coherence peaks of the quasi-particle DOS below T(c).

Structure and electronic properties of ultrathin Co films on W(110)

Abstract The structure and electronic properties of ultrathin Co films on W(1 1 0) grown by molecular beam epitaxy in UHV were investigated by low energy electron diffraction (LEED) and scanning tunneling microscopy and spectroscopy (STM and STS). For coverages above 0.7 ML the pseudomorphic (ps) monolayer is transformed gradually into close-packed (cp-) monolayer areas, showing up as separated islands that increase in size with coverage until the cp-monolayer is complete. Complement pore genesis observed in erythrocyte membranes by fluorescence microscopic single-channel recording

The formation and opening of single complement pores could be directly observed in erythrocyte ghosts by confocal laser-scanning microscopy employing the recently introduced method of fluorescence microscopic single-channel recording. Resealed sheep erythrocyte ghosts were incubated with human complement.
