Lanthanum orthoferrites LaFeO3 nanopowders doped with 20 mol% of Sr and 0-10-20 mol% of Cu were prepared by citrate auto-combustion synthesis and investigated in terms of crystal structure, morphology, surface area and optical properties by using several characterization techniques. The band gap energy values were found to range from 2.35 eV for LaFeO3 to 1.86 eV for the samples with the highest content of copper, this trend reflects the decrease of the particle size. All powders showed photocurrent response, the highest photocurrent was obtained for undoped orthoferrite calcined at 600°C. Hysteresis in the temperature dependence of the IR bending vibration of deeply cooled confined water.

Using Fourier Transform Infrared (FTIR) spectroscopy, we investigate the temperature dependence of the bending vibrations of water confined in the pores of a silica hydrogel in the temperature interval of 270-180 K. We also investigate the presence of thermal hysteresis by cooling and reheating temperature scans. The results clearly show the presence, at about 230 K, of a crossover in the temperature dependence of the IR spectra; moreover, the presence of hysteresis is clearly demonstrated. Wavelength-selective directional coupling with dielectric-loaded plasmonic waveguides

International audience; We consider wavelength-selective splitting of radiation using directional couplers (DCs) formed by dielectric-loaded surface-plasmon-polariton waveguides (DLSPPWs). The DCs were fabricated by depositing subwavelength-sized polymer ridges on a gold film using large-scale UV photolithography and characterized at telecommunications wavelengths with near-field microscopy. Influence of applied strain on the microstructural corrosion of AlMg2 as-cast aluminium alloy in sodium chloride solution

International audience; The corrosion behavior of ISO AlMg2 (AA5052) was studied at the microscale using the Electrochemical Microcell Technique. The influence of plastic deformation on the corrosion resistance of this alloy was also examined. After polishing, pitting at small copper-enriched precipitates and structural etching were observed. After deformation, numerous slip bands were found in grains. After 5.5% plastic strain, the global electrochemical behavior of samples was significantly affected. Pitting potential was decreased in sites containing slip bands or in sites with large strain gradients (measured using microgauges deposited by lithography).

The effect of prolonged storage time on asphalt rubber binder properties

Abstract This study wants to provide fundamental understanding of prolonged storage time on asphalt rubber binder properties by performing an investigation on the variation of conventional properties, rheology and morphology of four asphalt rubbers maintained at 180 °C in low shear for different digestion/storage times up to 48 h. The analysed asphalt rubbers were manufactured by combining two different asphalt binder grades, pen 35/50 and pen 50/70, with both cryogenic and ambient crumb rubber. A comparative study on the drug release capacity of four water swellable polymeric systems was carried out by differential scanning calorimetry (DSC). The polymeric systems chosen were alpha,beta-polyaspartahydrazide (PAHy) crosslinked by glutaraldehyde (GLU) (PAHy-GLU) or by ethyleneglycoldiglycidylether (EGDGE), (PAHy-EGDGE), polyvinylalcohol (PVA) crosslinked by glutaraldehyde (PVA-GLU) and alpha,beta-poly(N-hydroxyethyl)-DL-aspartamide (PHEA) by gamma irradiation (PHEA-gamma matrices). Microstructured electrodeposited polypyrrole–phthalocyanine hybrid material, from morphology to ammonia sensing

Hybrid materials combining polypyrrole with ionic macrocycles as counterions are electrosynthesized at the surface of platinum interdigitated electrodes. The chemical composition of the hybrid films is characterized by infrared reflexion absorption spectroscopy (IRRAS) and glow discharge optical emission spectroscopy (GDOES) and their morphology is studied by a range of techniques such as optical topomicroscopy, scanning electron microscopy (SEM) and atomic force microscopy (AFM).
