Deposition and characterization of cold sprayed nanocrystalline NiTi
2011
International audience; Binary 50Ni–50Ti mixture was prepared by mechanical alloying from elemental powders. After 48 h of milling, the nanocrystalline B2-NiTi powder was produced. Then, this as-milled powder was deposited by cold spraying in order to produce a target which can be used to create thin films by magnetron sputtering technique. The objective is to improve the electrical characterizations of the NiTi/SiO2/Si M.O.S structures. Themorphology evolution of the powder particles, the phase identification and the alloying evolution process as function of milling time were studied using scanning electron microscopy, X-ray diffraction and transmission electron microscopy. In addition, th…
Morphology and structure of electrospun CoFe2O4/multi-wall carbon nanotubes composite nanofibers
2010
CoFe2O4/multiwall carbon nanotubes (MWCNTs) composite nanofibers were produced by electrospinning a dispersion of MWCNTs in a solution of polyvinylpyrrolidone, iron(III) nitrate nonahydrate, cobalt (II) acetate tetrahydrate, absolute ethanol and H2O. Microstructure was examined by scanning electron microscopy (SEM) and high resolution transmission electron microscopy (HR-TEM). Thermal behaviour was studied by thermogravimetry and differential thermal analysis (TG-DTA) and phase analysis of calcined fibers was performed by X-ray diffraction (XRD). Upon thermal treatment at 450 °C defect-free, randomly oriented composite fibers having a mean diameter of 60 ± 10 nm were obtained. The results s…

Reversible stress softening of collagen based networks from the jumbo squid mantle (Dosidicus gigas).
2014
Dosidicus gigas is the largest and one of the most abundant jumbo squids in the eastern Pacific Ocean. In this paper we have studied the muscle of the mantle of D. gigas (DGM). Morphological, thermal and rheological properties were assessed by means of atomic force microscopy, scanning electron microscopy, energy-dispersive X-ray spectroscopy, differential scanning calorimetry, thermogravimetry and oscillatory rheometry. This study allowed us to assess the morphological and rheological properties of a collagen based network occurring in nature. The results showed that the DGM network displays a nonlinear effect called reversible stress softening (RSS) that has been previously described for …
Hydroformylation of 1-Hexene over Rh/Nano-Oxide Catalysts
2013
The effect of nanostructured supports on the activity of Rh catalysts was studied by comparing the catalytic performance of nano- and bulk-oxide supported Rh/ZnO, Rh/SiO₂ and Rh/TiO₂ systems in 1-hexene hydroformylation. The highest activity with 100% total conversion and 96% yield of aldehydes was obtained with the Rh/nano-ZnO catalyst. The Rh/nano-ZnO catalyst was found to be more stable and active than the corresponding rhodium catalyst supported on bulk ZnO. The favorable morphology of Rh/nano-ZnO particles led to an increased metal content and an increased number of weak acid sites compared to the bulk ZnO supported catalysts. Both these factors favored the improved catalytic performan…
Ultra-low density metallic foams synthesized by contact glow discharge electrolysis (CGDE) for laser experiments★
2018
International audience; The goal of this work is to realize metallic foams synthesized by contact glow discharge electrolysis with specific characteristics. In this paper, we show the results of our studies, consisting in investigating parameters that influence the foams characteristics. Thus, the morphology of metallic foams is examined through scanning electron microscopy (SEM) observations with the acid nature. Moreover, the evolution of the mass and the volume of metallic foams with two experimental parameters (overvoltage and gold concentration) is also investigated. The acid nature affects the foams microscopic structure highlighted by the SEM observations, but for now no valid explan…
Structural and Electric Properties of Sodium Lithium Niobate Ceramic Solid Solution Li0.08Na0.92NbO3
2011
A lead-free solid solution Li0.08Na0.92NbO3 was prepared by a two-stage hot-pressing technology. The structure and morphology of Li0.08Na0.92NbO3 were characterised by X-ray diffraction (XRD) and scanning electron microscopy (SEM). The studies of electric conductivity were performed depending on temperature and frequency of electric measuring field on heating and cooling processes. These measurements revealed that the a.c. conductivity changed with the frequency according to the formula: σ(ω)=σ dc +Aω n where n < 1. These results were discussed considering the conduction mechanism as a type of polaron hopping.
Post-sintering heat treatment effect on the coercivity of sintered (Nd,Dy)15(Fe,Co,Mo,Al)77B8 permanent magnets
2000
Abstract The effect of heat treatment on the intrinsic coercivity, iHc and microstructure were investigated for sintered (Nd,Dy)15(Fe,Co,Mo,Al)77 B8 permanent magnet. The microstructure has been investigated by scanning electron microscopy (SEM), energy dispersive X-ray analysis (EDX), X-ray spectroscopy and Mossbauer spectroscopy. The observed behaviour of iHc may be caused by a superposition of the following effects: (i) the distribution of the nonmagnetic phases and the ratio of the amount of hard magnetic Nd2Fe14B-phase to the amount of the residual phases; (ii) homogeneous distribution of elements in the main phases; (iii) removing the stresses in the phases; and (iv) diffusion of Al, …
Data on phase and chemical compositions of black sands from “El Ostional” beach situated in Mompiche, Ecuador
2020
Abstract Data revealing the phase and chemical compositions of natural black sands from “El Ostional” beach, located in the northern Ecuadorian Pacific coast have been presented. The samples were collected from six points over the shore area of approximately 500 × 40 m2. The data on crystalline phases (iron titanium oxide, orthoclase feldspar and zircon) were determined by X-ray powder diffraction (XRPD), while semi-quantitative chemical analyses of major (Fe and Ti) and trace elements were obtained by X-ray fluorescence spectroscopy (XRF). The phase composition was verified by scanning electron microscopy (SEM), using backscattered electron (BSE) mode and energy dispersive spectroscopy (ED…
Microwave synthesis of yttria stabilized zirconia
2005
Yttria stabilised zirconia (YSZ) nanocrystals, with a mean size between 5 and 10 nm, were prepared by microwave flash synthesis. Flash synthesis was performed in alcoholic solutions of yttrium, zirconium chloride and sodium ethoxide (EtONa) using a microwave autoclave (RAMO system) specially designed by authors. Energy dispersive X-ray analysis (EDX), X-ray powder diffraction (XRD), BET adsorption technique, photon correlation spectroscopy (PCS) transmission and scanning electron microscopy (TEM and SEM) are used to characterized these nanoparticles. Compared with conventional synthesis, nanopowders can be produced in a short period (e.g. 10 s), both high purity and stoechiometric control a…
