Measurements of the top quark branching ratios into channels with leptons and quarks with the ATLAS detector

2015

Measurements of the branching ratios of top quark decays into leptons and jets using events with t[bar over t] (top antitop) pairs are reported. Events were recorded with the ATLAS detector at the LHC in pp collisions at a center-of-mass energy of 7 TeV. The collected data sample corresponds to an integrated luminosity of 4.6  fb[superscript −1]. The measured top quark branching ratios agree with the Standard Model predictions within the measurement uncertainties of a few percent.

Liquid structure of a choline chloride-water natural deep eutectic solvent: A molecular dynamics characterization

2021

The liquid structure of a representative of the first water-in-salt (WiS) Natural Deep Eutectic Solvents (NADES), hereinafter indicated as aquoline, a mixture of choline chloride (ChCl) and water with molar ratio 1:3.33, is ex- plored at ambient conditions. Using Molecular Dynamics (MD) simulation tools, we extract structural informa- tion at atomistic level on the nature of inter-correlations between the different moieties. Despite being a very fluid liquid, with much lower viscosity than other common ChCl-based DES, aquoline turns out to be very struc- tured. Computed X-ray and neutron weighted scattering patterns (the latter also on selectively deuterated mix- tures) highlight the existe…

Structural Features of β-Cyclodextrin Solvation in the Deep Eutectic Solvent, Reline

2020

The inherently amphiphilic nature of native cyclodextrins (CDs) determines their peculiar molecular encapsulation features, enabling applications such as targeted drug nanodelivery, aroma protection, etc. On the contrary, it may also lead to poor solubility in water and other organic solvents and to potentially detrimental flocking in these media, thus posing limitations to more extensive usage. Here we use small angle X-ray scattering to show that deep eutectic solvent reline (1:2 choline chloride:urea) succeeds in dissolving large amounts of beta-CD (at least 800 mg/mL, compared with the solubility in water of 18 mg/mL), without aggregation phenomena occurring. At the microscopic level, m…

Non-linear optical, electrochemical and spectroelectrochemical properties of amphiphilic inner salt porphyrinic systems

2016

Three zwitterionic meso-substituted A3B- and AB2C-porphyrins containing one sulfonato alkylpyridinium substituent and three or two alkoxy-substituted phenyl groups were synthesized in good yield and fully characterized as to their physicochemical properties by a variety of techniques. This new series of inner salt donor-acceptor meso-substituted porphyrin derivatives were prepared for possible application as amphiphilic probes for membrane insertion in the area of combined second-harmonic and two-photon fluorescence cellular microscopy. To this end, the linear and nonlinear optical properties of the compounds were characterized, together with their electrochemical and spectroelectrochemica…

Measurement of the spin-dependent structure function g1(x) of the deuteron

1993

We report on the first measurement of the spin-dependent structure function g1d of the deuteron in the deep inelastic scattering of polarised muons off polarised deuterons, in the kinematical range 0.006<x<0.6, 1 GeV2<Q2<30 GeV2. The first moment, Γ1d=sh{phonetic}01 g1d dx=0.023±0.020 (stat.) ± 0.015 (syst.), is smaller than the prediction of the Ellis-Jaffe sum rules. Using earlier measurements of g1p, we infer the first moment of the spin-dependent neutron structure function g1n. The difference Γ1p-Γ1n=0.20 ±0.05 (stat.) ± 0.04 (syst.) agrees with the prediction of the Bjorken sum rule, Γ1p-Γ1n=0.191 ±0.002.

Dam displacements monitoring by using GNSS and remote sensing techniques

Clusterization and Strong Coulpled-Channels Effects in Deuteron Interaction with 9Be Nuclei

2019

Angular distributions of protons, deuterons, tritons and alphaparticles emitted in the d + 9Be reaction at Elab=19.5 and 35.0 MeV have been measured. The elastic scattering channel is analysed in the framework of both the Optical Model and the Coupled-Channel approach. The interaction potential of the d + 9Be system is calculated in the framework of the Double-Folding model using the α + α + n three-body wave function of the 9Be nucleus. The (d, p) and (d, t) one-nucleon-transfer reactions are analysed within the coupledreaction-channel approach. The spectroscopic amplitudes for the different nuclear cluster configurations are calculated. Differential cross sections for the reaction channel…

Active photonic crystals based on surface acoustic waves

2003

An active photonic crystal (PC) based on the modulation of a one-dimensional cavity resonator by electrically-generated surface acoustic waves is described. The high nonthermal population of surface modes combined with the enhanced Brillouin scattering in the cavity increases the intensity of the scattered light to values comparable to the excitation intensity. This process is employed to switch and modulate light beams in PCs.

Doubling of α-cluster states in 22 Ne

2001

Excitation functions for 18 O + α elastic scattering were measured by a method using inverse kinematics and a thick gas target. An analysis of the data corresponding to the excitation energy regions of 11.8–13.7 MeV and 19.0–22.0 MeV in 22 Ne was carried out. A surprising splitting of 1 − , 3 − , 7 − , and 9 − α -cluster levels into doublets was found in 22 Ne . peerReviewed
