Spatio-temporal saliency detection in dynamic scenes using color and texture features
2014
Visual saliency is an important research topic in the field of computer vision due to its numerouspossible applications. It helps to focus on regions of interest instead of processingthe whole image or video data. Detecting visual saliency in still images has been widelyaddressed in literature with several formulations. However, visual saliency detection invideos has attracted little attention, and is a more challenging task due to additional temporalinformation. Indeed, a video contains strong spatio-temporal correlation betweenthe regions of consecutive frames, and, furthermore, motion of foreground objects dramaticallychanges the importance of the objects in a scene. The main objective o…
POLARIZATION-BASED CAR DETECTION
2018
International audience; Road scene understanding is a vital task for driving assistance systems. Robust vehicle detection is a precondition for diverse applications particularly for obstacle avoidance and secure navigation. Color images provide limited information about the physical properties of the object. This results in unstable vehicle detection caused mainly from road scene complexity (strong reflexions, noises and radiometric distortions). Instead, polarimetric images, characteristic of the light wave, can robustly describe important physical properties of the object (e.g., the surface geometric structure, material and roughness etc). This modality gives rich physical informations wh…
3D image acquisition system based on shape from focus technique
2013
agent Agrosup Dijon de l'UMREcolDurGEAPSI; This paper describes the design of a 3D image acquisition system dedicated to natural complex scenes composed of randomly distributed objects with spatial discontinuities. In agronomic sciences, the 3D acquisition of natural scene is difficult due to the complex nature of the scenes. Our system is based on the Shape from Focus technique initially used in the microscopic domain. We propose to adapt this technique to the macroscopic domain and we detail the system as well as the image processing used to perform such technique. The Shape from Focus technique is a monocular and passive 3D acquisition method that resolves the occlusion problem affecting…
Improved multi-resolution image fusion
2005
This work describes an automatic technique able to fuse different images of the same scene, acquired at different settings, in order to obtain an enhanced single representation of the scene of interest by an improved picture fusion scheme. This allows the extending of the functionalities (depth of field, dynamic range) of medium and low cost digital cameras. When multi-scale decomposition is used on multi-focused images, magnification effects of the lens focusing system cause an incorrect estimation of all pixels in the final image. In our approach new techniques able to reduce these artifacts are introduced. The algorithm has been applied both on full RGB and on color filter array (CFA) im…
A Geometric Approach to Automatic Description of Iconic Scenes
2005
It is proposed a step towards the automatic description of scenes with a geometric approach. The scenes considered are composed by a set of elements that can be geometric forms or iconic representation of objects. Every icon is characterized by a set of attributes like shape, colour, position, orientation. Each scene is related to a set of sentences describing its content. The proposed approach builds a data driven vector semantic space where the scenes and the sentences are mapped. Sentences and scene with the same meaning are mapped in near vectors and distance criteria allow retrieving semantic relations.

On Spatio-Temporal Saliency Detection in Videos using Multilinear PCA
2016
International audience; Visual saliency is an attention mechanism which helps to focus on regions of interest instead of processing the whole image or video data. Detecting salient objects in still images has been widely addressed in literature with several formulations and methods. However, visual saliency detection in videos has attracted little attention, although motion information is an important aspect of visual perception. A common approach for obtaining a spatio-temporal saliency map is to combine a static saliency map and a dynamic saliency map. In this paper, we extend a recent saliency detection approach based on principal component analysis (PCA) which have shwon good results wh…
Scene giudiziarie nelle tragedie e nelle commedie latine del XII e XIII secolo. Il «De Affra et Flavio», il «De Paulino et Polla» di Riccardo da Veno…
2021
L’intermezzo, Napoli e l’Europa
2018
The essay is an attempt to summarize the most up-to-date knowledge related to the history of the comic intermezzo. Some crucial examples of the Neapolitan scenic tradition are analyzed in order to highlight the progressive emancipation of comic scenes. An examination of the main dramatic and musical characteristics of the genre follows. The last part of the article concerns the European circulation of the Italian creations, with special attention to the famous "querelle des bouffons", which broke out in the mid-eighteenth century Paris following the performance of Giovambattista Pergolesi's "La serva padrona".
3D ACQUISITION SYSTEM APPLIED TO AGRONOMIC SCENES
2012
International audience; To improve results in automatic wheat ear counting by proxy-detection for early yield prediction, we need depth information of the scene. In this paper, we describe our 3D acquisition system dedicated to reconstruction of agronomic scenes. This system is composed of a camera mounted on a linear displacement driven by a microcontroller. The linear displacement allows acquiring a set of images in different distances to the scene. This image stack is used to apply shape from focus technique which is a passive and monocular 3D reconstruction method. This technique consists in the application of a focus measure for every pixel in the stack. An approximation method is used…
