This study presents the findings from a controlled trial of the new Teacher Guides for English as a subject (n=293) that form part of the new elementary English Standards-Based Curriculum in Papua New Guinea. The aim was to investigate whether training on the Teacher Guides had an impact on teachers’ ability to use and deliver the scripted lessons they contain. The trial was conducted in two provinces. Assessment was by pre- and post-trial questionnaires, reflective journals and focus groups. The aim of this work is to show that at the population level, emerging properties may occur as a result of the coupling between the fast micro-dynamics and the slow macrodynamics. We studied a prey-predator system with different time scales in a heterogeneous environment. A fast time scale is associated to the migration process on spatial patches and a slow time scale is associated to the growth and the interactions between the species. Preys go on the spatial patches on which some resources are located and can be caught by the predators on them. The efficiency of the predators to catch preys is patch-dependent. The Depressive and Anxious Avoidance in Prolonged Grief Questionnaire (DAAPGQ) was developed to measure depressive and anxious avoidance behaviors, which, according to cognitive-behavioral models, are supposed to play an important role in the development and maintenance of prolonged grief. Myoglobin (MB) is an oxygen-binding protein usually found in cardiac myocytes and skeletal muscle fibers. It may function as a temporary storage and transport protein for O2 but could also have scavenging capacity for reactive oxygen and nitrogen species. In addition, MB has recently been identified as a hallmark in luminal breast cancer and was shown to be robustly induced under hypoxia. Epidemiologic research on migration and health in Germany is increasingly focusing on chronic diseases. Migrant studies can help to identify causes of diseases. They also help to identify health inequalities and can thus contribute to improvements in health care. With regard to cancer, descriptive studies among Turkish migrants and ethnic German immigrants from the Former Soviet Union have shown overall low, but slowly increasing cancer rates as compared to autochthonous Germans.
