Lukion historian opettajien käsityksiä esseen arviointiin vaikuttavista piirteistä

2021

Artikkelissa tarkastellaan lukion historian opettajien käsityksiä aineistopohjaisen esseen arvioinnista ja siihen vaikuttavista piirteistä tiedonalan tekstitaitojen näkökulmasta. Aineisto koostuu opettajien ryhmähaastatteluista ja lukiolaisten kirjoittamista aineistopohjaisista esseistä. Haastattelut analysoitiin laadullisen sisällönanalyysin avulla ja esseiden kielellisiä piirteitä systeemis-funktionaalisen kieliteorian avulla. Analyysissä keskityttiin opettajien arvostamiin esseen piirteisiin ja niiden kielellisiin toteumiin. Opettajien arvostamissa piirteissä korostuivat erityisesti sisältötiedon hallinta sekä tehtävänannon noudattaminen. Aineiston käyttöön ja opiskelijan omaan pohdintaa…

Pluskvamperfekti, pluperfect or past perfect? : presenting English tenses in upper secondary school books

2014

Aloitettaessa uuden kielen opiskelu opeteltavaa on valtava määrä ja aikamuodot ovat yksi tärkeä opittava asia. Kun opitaan ilmaisemaan tapahtuman aika oikein, monilta väärinkäsityksiltä voidaan välttyä viestin välittämisessä. Todennäköisin lähde aikamuotojen muodostamisohjeille on kirja, jota koulussa käytetään ja siirryttäessä asteelta toiselle, on sillä merkitystä miten aikamuodot on kyseisessä kirjassa esitetty. Tämä tutkimus lähtikin selvittämään juuri tätä yhteyttä aikamuotojen esityksessä siirryttäessä lukiosta ylemmälle tasolle ja se oli luonteeltaan kvalitatiivinen sisällön analyysi. Tutkimuksella haluttiin selvittää kuinka aikamuodot on esitetty lukion oppikirjoissa verrattuna ylem…

Distinctive attributes for predicted secondary structures at terminal sequences of non-classically secreted proteins from proteobacteria

2008

Abstract C- and N-terminal sequences (64 amino acid residues each) of 89 non-classically secreted type I, type III and type IV proteins (Swiss-Prot/TrEMBL) from proteobacteria were transformed into predicted secondary structures. Multivariate analysis of variance (MANOVA) confirmed the significance of location (C- or N-termini) and secretion type as essential factors in respect of quantitative representations of structured (a-helices, b-strands) and unstructured (coils) elements. The profiles of secondary structures were transcripted using unequal property values for helices, strands and coils and corresponding numerical vectors (independent variables) were subjected to multiple discriminan…

A Completeness Proof for a Regular Predicate Logic with Undefined Truth Value

2023

We provide a sound and complete proof system for an extension of Kleene's ternary logic to predicates. The concept of theory is extended with, for each function symbol, a formula that specifies when the function is defined. The notion of "is defined" is extended to terms and formulas via a straightforward recursive algorithm. The "is defined" formulas are constructed so that they themselves are always defined. The completeness proof relies on the Henkin construction. For each formula, precisely one of the formula, its negation, and the negation of its "is defined" formula is true on the constructed model. Many other ternary logics in the literature can be reduced to ours. Partial functions …

Vegetation dynamics on abandoned terraces of Sicily: the course and driving forces of succession

2007

In Mediterranean Europe, terrace landscapes can be found where 1) the orography is characterized by hills or mountains, 2) there is a high amount of stone outcrops and 3) the human need for agricultural production was quite high till the recent past. During the last century, many of these landscapes have been abandoned, due to their unsuitability for mechanized, intensive agriculture and due to the general land abandonment trend which arised in large parts of Europe. Since with land abandonment start secondary succession processes, the plant and animal communities linked to agroecosystems are replaced by other species which find their habitat in the developing succession stages. This proces…

L2 English questions

2014

The research on the amount and the types of corrective feedback beneficial for learning a second or foreign language has produced inconsistent results. Interestingly, studying corrective feedback from the perspective of a sociocultural theory of learning has the potential to resolve these differences although so far, these studies have been largely qualitative. The present study attempts to contribute to the existing research on corrective feedback from this perspective by comparing the effects of two types of automated corrective feedback on learning: adaptive feedback (i.e., feedback incrementally adapting to learners’ abilities by becoming more explicit and detailed) and knowledge of res…

2021

The purpose of this article is to present the peasant movement in the Second Polish Republic in contemporary school history textbooks. On the basis of textbooks, students can learn that the peasant movement arose in Galicia in the late nineteenth century. In the Second Polish Republic there were a few parties named Polish People’s Party. For many years the main party was Polish Peasant party ,,Piast”. After Poland regained independence in 1918, it formed a part of several governments, most notably after the Lanckorona Pact and in the Chjeno-Piast coalition. Its major politicians included Wincenty Witos and Maciej Rataj. The second largest party, about which there is a lot of information in …

Laser fluence, repetition rate and pulse duration effects on paint ablation

2006

Abstract The efficiency (mm3/(J pulse)) of laser ablation of paint was investigated with nanosecond pulsed Nd:YAG lasers (λ = 532 nm) as a function of the following laser beam parameters: pulse repetition rate (1–10,000 Hz), laser fluence (0.1–5 J/cm2) and pulse duration (5 ns and 100 ns). In our study, the best ablation efficiency (η ≅ 0.3 mm3/J) was obtained with the highest repetition rate (10 kHz) at the fluence F = 1.5 J/cm2. This ablation efficiency can be associated with heat accumulation at high repetition rate, which leads to the ablation threshold decrease. Despite the low thermal diffusivity and the low optical absorption of the paint (thermal confinement regime), the ablation th…

The (im)possible success of disadvantaged students. Reflections on education, migration and social change

2019

The paper focuses on the ?unexpected pathways? of successful students with an immigrant background: these biographical routes, that seems socially impossible, raise theoretical issues around the individual-society, actor-structure relationship. Disadvantaged students who succeed represent a sociological challenge in the attempt to understand atypical situations and to identify the institutional processes and the structural opportunities that facilitate them, reducing ethnic inequalities in education. This framework is the starting point of the Su.Per. project (Success in educational pathways of students with immigrant background), based on the collection of written autobiographies of 65 imm…
