The influence of the physical education teacher on intrinsic motivation, self-confidence, anxiety, and pre-and post-competition mood states
2001
One of the fundamental problems facing teachers of physical education (PE) is how to increase pupils' motivation. From the point of view of goal achievement, guidelines need to be established so that information may be used to greater effect in classes. This study examined the relationship between the motivational climate created by the PE teacher and the intrinsic motivation of the preparatory sessions together with self-confidence and anxiety prior to competition and pre- and post-competition mood states. The sample was made up of school children (M age = 11.7) from a state school (N = 115), who, after an introduction to an athletics course of 12 sessions, took part in a sports competitio…
Toppdommerrollen i fotball : sammenhengen mellom angst og mental tøffhet og toppdommeres subjektive opplevelse av press i norsk fotball
2016
Masteroppgave i idrettsvitenskap - Universitetet i Agder 2016 Mental toughness, anxiety and pressure are well-used terms within sports, even though it can be difficult to understand the meaning of them. The purpose of this study was to examine the relationship between anxiety (cognitive- and somatic anxiety and self-confidence) and mental toughness, and top-class referees’ subjective experience on pressure as a soccer official. 183 top-class referees answered an online questionnaire. Mental toughness was measured by using the SMTQ and anxiety by using the CSAI-2. Of all the referees included in this study, 97.2% had been active footballers themselves, 44.3% had played on a high level. There…
Disability-related-distress in primary school learners with vision impairment due to uncorrected refractive error in KwaZulu-Natal Province, South Af…
2020
Background Uncorrected refractive error (URE) is a major cause of vision impairment among children that impacts negatively on their lives including distresses. We aim to understand the disability-related distress among vision-impaired children due to URE in rural and semi-rural South Africa using qualitative techniques. Methods Structured focus groups of children (aged 5-12 years old) with normal vision and vision impairment due to URE from four schools in Pinetown, KwaZulu Natal, South Africa, were performed (four mixed-gender group discussions and eight single gender group discussions). We recruited the study participants after the children underwent standardised vision screening. Criteri…
Resilience and Precompetitive Anxiety in swimmers of school age. A descriptive study.
2018
Willingness to Communicate in L2 and Self-Perceived Levels of FL Skills in Polish Adolescents
2011
The willingness to communicate (WTC) construct, originally referring to individuals’ tendencies to engage in communication in the L1 when given the free choice (McCroskey and Richmond, Personality and interpersonal communication, Newbury Park, CA, pp. 129–156, 1987), can also be applied to a second language context (MacIntyre, Dornyei, Clement and Noels, Mod Lang J 82:545–562, 1998). It can then be defined as “a readiness to enter into discourse at a particular time with a specific person or persons, using a L2” (MacIntyre, Dornyei, Clement and Noels, Mod Lang J 82:545–562, 1998, p. 547). MacIntyre, Dornyei, Clement and Noels, (Mod Lang J 82:545–562, 1998) proposed a pyramid-shaped L2 WTC m…

Children’s Internet Competence vs. Self-confidence and Self-comfort: Case Study of Latvia
2014
The objective of the paper is to compare children’s internet literacy with children’s self-evaluation of their internet competences in a parental mediation context. The theoretical frame includes two aspects – theoretical understanding about “generations” depending on information technology use and parental mediation. Data were collected by a survey of children and four focus groups interviews with parents (all use internet). The children’s survey does not give definite answers about identification of some “generation”, but parents’ answers mark children as another “generation” by their internet use practice. Two high risk factors have been identified (1) children explicitly rely on peers’ …
Avances de investigación en educación matemática
2013
In this paper we present a tool we designe…
Identity Formation, Personal Control Over Development, and Well-Being
2006
Individuals' conceptions of their personal goals have been studied in the psychology literature from different perspectives. In this chapter, the processes and implications of one's orientations and self-definitions were analyzed along two dimensions: one's sense of identity, and the self-percepts of autonomous control over development. Several researchers (e.g., Archer, 1989; Brandtstädter & Baltes-Götz, 1990; Pulkkinen & Rönkä, 1994) have concluded, on the basis of literature reviews and empirical findings, that adaptive capacities are associated with a clear sense of identity and personal control over development. Although any given cultural and historical context confines the possible a…
THE IMPACT OF FAMILY AND INDIVIDUAL FACTORS ON 4TH GRADE STUDENTS’ SELF-CONFIDENCE IN READING LITERACY: RESULTS FROM PIRLS 2016
2021
The self-confidence of a child and an adult is associated with performance and achievement results. It is well-studied, and the correlation has been proved that higher self-efficacy leads to higher achievements and performance, including better performance in reading literacy. It is also known that both a family and a home environment have a tremendous impact on the child’s development and academic performance. This article focuses on the 4 th graders and their family factor impact on the development of a child’s self-confidence and concepts related to self-confidence. The purpose of this article is to define concepts that are closely related to self-confidence and to identify family factor…
