AbstractIn this chapter we examine a foreign language learning environment in a community-engaged setting in a Canadian city through a new materialist lens. As part of a service-learning project, Canadian students of Finnish language and culture visit a Finnish language seniors’ centre regularly to participate in different activities and spend time with the Finnish-speaking seniors. We examine the assemblage of the participants (seniors and students) and one artefact, a map, and offer a close analysis of the intra-action that takes place during one visit at the centre. Diplomdarba tēma ir “Senioru dzīves kvalitātes uzlabošana ilgstošās sociālās aprūpes institūcijā.” Darba mērķis ir analizēt teorētisko sociālā darba bāzi, atklāt faktorus, kas rada dehumanizācijas riskus un raksturot dzīves kvalitāti aprūpes institūcijā. Seniors’ social image: the representation of ageing in electoral campaigns

This study builds on previous research on ageing representation in relation to common assumptions and stereotypes (Schneider & Ingram 1993; Holladay & Coombs 2004, Kaid & Garner 2004), in order to provide an overview of the ways in which older adults have been addressed and exploited in US political (i.e. electoral) campaigns. Considering campaign ads as multimodal texts, Kress & van Leeuwen’s social semiotic approach (2001) is used to examine how multimodal elements convey seniors’ images. Latvijas senioru novecošanās diskurss

Maģistra darba pētījuma jautājums ir - kā Latvijas seniori skata savu un citu novecošanos. Pētījumā, balstoties uz M. Fuko diskursa analīzes un zināšanu arheoloģijas teorijām, tika veikta novecošanās diskursa analīze par datiem, kas tika iegūti etnogrāfiskajos lauka pētījumos, veicot intervijas ar divpadsmit senioru vecuma informantiem. Diskursa analīzes rezultātā tika iegūti būtiski secinājumi, ka Latvijas senioru novecošanās diskursu lielā mērā ārēji konstruē dažādi ārēji „skaļāki” un spēcīgāki diskursi, kamēr intervētie informanti reizē „cīnās” ar šīs ārējās kategorizēšanas sekām un par pārsteigumu pat paši sev atklāj, ka viņu dzīves realitātē nekas tik būtiski nav mainījies, lai viņi bū…
