Examining mediators of change in wellbeing, stress, and depression in a blended, Internet-based, ACT intervention for university students

A coach-guided Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT) intervention that uses a blended approach of two face-to-face and five online sessions (iACT; N = 33) has been found to be more effective than a waiting-list control condition (WLC; N = 35) at enhancing the wellbeing of university students while also reducing stress and depression. The present study explored possible mediators of change that may account for the outcomes of the study. ABSTRACTThis article examines the experience of being seen and analyzes its central role in the formation of a coherent sense of self. Tove Jansson’s short story from 1962, ‘The Invisible Child’, serves as the red thread of the article, and the story is analyzed in the light of Donald Winnicott’s work on social mirroring. The analysis is enriched by the psychoanalytic insights of Veikko Tahka and Heinz Kohut, and complemented by Axel Honneth’s philosophical elaborations as well as by recent developmental findings as presented by Vasudevi Reddy. Introduction. Familial Hypobetalipoproteinemia (FHBL) is a codominant disorder characterized by reduced plasma levels of LDL-C and apolipoprotein (apo) B. In 50% of cases FHBL is due to mutations in APOB gene resulting in truncated apoBs of various size. Some mutations in APOB gene resulting in non-conservative amino acid substitutions were reported to cause FHBL. In vitro, these mutations induce the retention of the mutant apoB in the endoplasmic reticulum (ER) and impair the secretion of apoB-containing lipoproteins. Lo scopo del presente contributo è stato quello di analizzare come l’identificazione etnica (ingroup ed outgroup) e la discriminazione percepita (come straniero o come partner di coppia mista) siano legati al senso di comunità (SdC) dei partner stranieri delle famiglie interculturali residenti in Spagna e in Italia. I risultati mostrano che in entrambi i gruppi l’identificazione con il proprio gruppo etnico-culturale non è associata al SdC. Multiple sclerosis is a progressive demyelinating disease of the central nervous system that can lead to permanent disability and significantly impact the quality of life. The present study explores the relationship between neurological disability and disease symptoms, quality of life, and the level of sense of coherence, which is an important resource for coping with the disease. EDSS, GNDS, SOC-29, and MSIS-29 were used in the presented study. The study group consisted of 137 people diagnosed with multiple sclerosis. In this study we clinically and genetically characterize a consanguineous family with a homozygous novel missense mutation in the delta-sarcoglycan gene and a second delta-sarcoglycan mutation that has previously been reported to cause severe autosomal-dominant dilated cardiomyopathy. We identified a novel missense mutation in exon 6 (p.A131P) of the delta-sarcoglycan gene, which in a homozygous state leads to the clinical picture of a limb girdle muscular dystrophy.
