Fluorimetric methods to assess cytochrome P450 (P450) activities that do not require metabolite separation have been developed. These methods make use of non- or low-fluorescent P450 substrates that produce highly fluorescent metabolites in aqueous solutions. SUMMARY Background: The aim of the present study was to compare MALDI-TOF results for the identification of 87 lactobacilli, isolated from soft or hard carious dentin from 70 first molars of 7- to 8-year-old children with those obtained by species-specific PCR. Methods: The 87 isolates were analyzed by MALDI-TOF MS (Microflex LT, MALDI Biotyper 3.0, Bruker Daltonik, Bremen, Germany), using a reference data base of 4110 strains including > 90 lactobacillus species. Plants have developed finely tuned mechanisms to efficiently acquire and balance the concentrations of essential metal micronutrients including iron, zinc, copper, and manganese, both at the cellular and systemic levels. The application of new emerging technologies to the study of Arabidopsis thaliana is providing a novel spatiotemporal view of plant metal homeostasis. These advances are uncovering unexpected links of metal homeostasis to central cellular processes, such as compartmentalization, daily redox oscillations, or transcriptional regulation. In mesenchymal tissues primary cilia play a crucial role in the adequate morphogenesis during embryological development. Ca2+ stimulates exocytosis in permeabilized insulin-secreting cells. To investigate the putative cytosolic components involved in the Ca2+ response, HIT-T15 cells (a pancreatic B-cell line) were permeabilized with streptolysin-O, a procedure that allows rapid exchange of soluble components including macromolecules.
