This article’s aim is to analyze David Albahari’s Götz and Meyer as the only Serbian literary text whose main theme is the extermination of the native Jews. The recurring key-word of the analysis is the notion of void, which appears both on the plot level and a more metaphorical one that connotes a less perceptible meaning of Albahari’s prose which can be summarized as a conviction about the insufficient memory of the Holocaust in Serbia. The main aim of this paper is to demonstrate what method Albahari employs to build his story. Memory in Action – Performative Practices in a Dispute about the Past: Serbia and Croatia at the Turn of the 20th and 21st Century

The article is an attempt to combine in one reflection the elements of two directions of critical thinking: discursive and performative. The starting point of the analysis is the assumption (derived from beliefs common in pre-performative times) that every space (including a city’s territory) can be treated as a text. This means that both static artifacts and activities in a given space communicate a certain message and can be seen as signs or symbols that refer to something outside of them. Our reflection focuses on practices in which the performative potential is fully revealed and which can be interpreted as a kind of rebellion against the present reality and official policies of memory.…

Predictors of health-related quality of life in Serbian patients with head and neck cancer.

The aim of this study was to identify predictors of the Health-Related Quality of Life (HRQoL) in patients with head and neck cancers (HNCs). In total, 345 patients with HNCs were interviewed. A self-report questionnaire was administered to collect data about demographic characteristics, health status, smoking, alcohol consumption habits, and HRQoL. It were used the EORTC Instruments - Quality of Life Questionnaire-Core 30-questions (QLQ-C30), Quality of Life Questionnaire - Head and Neck Module 35-questions (QLQ-H&N 35) and OHIP-14 instrument for HRQoL assessments. Giergiel and Taczyńska explore the memory of the Romani Holocaust (Porajmos) in the countries of former Yugoslavia (Serbia and Croatia). The memory of Porajmos is considered here as a social and cultural construct that has a history typical for a particular country/region; however, this subject is commonly marginalized, both in historiography and in cultural texts. This article investigates the ceremonial of the subjection of the Serbian zupan Stefan Nemanja to the Byzantine emperor Manuel I Komnenos (1172) and compares it with similar events of the period in question. It argues for a strong influence of western forms of conflict resolution (?deditio?) in the ceremonial.
Battle of Kosovo field in 1389 – legendary battle of Balkan Middle Ages

The main goal of this paper is the examine the circumstances of the Kosovo battle in 1389. Fundamental difficulty in describing this battle results from the fact that there was no separate chronicler. Moreover, the description of the battle of Kosovo field is based only on fragmentary information transmitted by Serbian, Bosnian, Turkish or Byzantine chroniclers. The author of this article proposed a thesis that battle of Kosovo field contributed to development of both Ottoman and Serbian art of warfare.
