Comparison of two serially coupled column systems and optimization software in isocratic liquid chromatography for resolving complex mixtures.

2012

Although there is a great deal of stationary phases having different selectivities (even practically orthogonal selectivities), these very rarely are taken as a factor to be optimized during method development. The chromatographer selects the stationary phase usually in a trial-and-error fashion (or based on the solute nature and expected interactions), and then optimizes continuous factors as the mobile phase composition, pH, temperature and flow-rate. However, the optimization of the stationary phase nature and column length (which are discrete factors) may be interesting. In this regard, the optimization of the coupling of individual columns may yield separations that are not possible wi…

English, French, and Polish Aliases of Criminals: Diversity of Inspirations in their Creation and Typical Nicknaming Schemes

2021

The present paper examines the topic of aliases of criminals, which seems to be understudied in linguistic research. Therefore, this article’s primary goal is to describe how criminals’ aliases are created and what are the differences and similarities in that process in English, French, and Polish. Firstly, the theoretical background concerning the topic of pseudonyms is presented. Then, the corpus gathered for this paper (available online: https://cutt.ly/1TRefrK), consisting of 206 pseudonyms (123 units in English, 42 in French, and 41 in Polish), is analyzed. In the analysis, four schemes are noted to be the most commonly used in creating pseudonyms of criminals. What ismore, the inspira…

Criterios para gestionar una política de adquisiciones: estudio estadístico del catálogo colectivo de publicaciones seriadas de la Universitat de Val…

1996

One of the most important topics in libraries management, specially nowadays when library budgets have been blocked or shortened, is to set up a suitable acquisitions policy. This article aims, from a particular experience, to supply some information that allow to fix such an acquisitions policy. It analyses the Valencia University Serials Catalog, taking into account its growth throughout time, changes in titles distribution by the publishing country, in libraries and collections, always relating the whole collection to the current one, to conclude with a view of the collection distribution in knowledge areas, taking into account the number of students.<br><br>Uno de los temas …

A High speed data link optimization for digitalized transfer to processing FPGA

2021

State-of-the-art arrays of detectors, that require digital processing, may have a sizeable number of digitalized signal links. This is the case in several experimental nuclear physics instruments. Moreover, the data rate of the sampled signals, defined primary by the signal bandwidth of the individual detectors, may not exhaust the capabilities of a single FPGA transceiver input. The preprocessing is usually carried out in a modern FPGA with transceiver data rate capabilities over 10Gbps. Moreover, cost effective FPGA have a limited number of transceivers for given FPGA processing capabilities. The investigation of a cost-effective and efficient solution to the mismatch between both data ra…

Specific protocol (SENSLOG) over TCP/IP for sensors applications

2005

The objective is to obtain an embedded system using a microcontroller that will communicate with other devices over a specific protocol (SENSLOG) over TCP/IP for sensors applications. The protocol has been designed for this application, but the commands are generic. They can be used for any type of sensing. We must take into account that this program will run in a microcontroller and it will communicate with another program running in a PC. The protocol is based on commands, like SMTP. From the PC we will send commands to the microcontroller to do specific tasks, and if it is necessary, the microcontroller will answer to the PC. Some of the functions designed for this protocol are: to contr…

Discrimination of serial auditory patterns in rats : roles of configural and elemental associations

2011

In order to test whether rats could discriminate between tone sequences, food deprived rats were given appetitive discrimination conditioning with repeated ascending or descending series of musical notes serving as conditioned stimuli (CSs). The other type of tone sequence was reinforced as the other was followed by nothing. In Experiment 1, each series of 8 tones formed a 2 s cycle. The cycle was repeated six times so that the duration of the whole sequence was 12 s. In Experiment 2, the CSs were similar to those in Experiment 1 except that they started with a random note. As a result, rats could discriminate between the stimuli when the CS started systematically with the same note. When t…
