OP0113 Lyme arthritis in southern norway - an endemic area for lyme borreliosis

2013

Background Southern Norway is an endemic area for Lyme borreliosis. IgG antibodies against Borrelia burgdorferi sensu lato ( Bb ) has been found in approx. 20% of the population (1). The main attention in Norway has been on neuroborreliosis (2). Despite the fact that arthritis is a well-known manifestation of Bb infection there is a lack of data on Lyme arthritis (LA). Objectives To characterize patients suggestive of having LA in southern Norway. Methods According to protocol patients aged 18 years or older with arthritis with a positive serology for Bb infection (IgG and/or IgM) suspicious of having LA were consecutively recruited either from general practitioners or from our own departme…

Serological Levels of Anti-clathrin Antibodies Are Decreased in Patients With Pseudoexfoliation Glaucoma

2021

Evidence for immunologic contribution to glaucoma pathophysiology is steadily increasing in ophthalmic research. Particularly, an altered abundance of circulating autoantibodies to ocular antigens is frequently observed. Here, we report an analysis of autoantibody abundancies to selected antigens in sera of open-angle glaucoma patients, subdivided into normal-tension glaucoma (N = 31), primary open-angle glaucoma (N = 43) and pseudoexfoliation glaucoma (N = 45), vs. a non-glaucomatous control group (N = 46). Serum samples were analyzed by protein microarray, including 38 antigens. Differences in antibody levels were assessed by ANOVA. Five serological antibodies showed significantly altered…

Performance Comparison of a Flow Cytometry-based and Two Commercial Chemiluminescent Immunoassays for Detection and Quantification of Antibodies Bind…

2021

ABSTRACTThe performance of a laboratory-developed quantitative IgG/IgA flow cytometry-based immunoassay (FCI) using Jurkat T cells stably expressing full-length native S protein was compared against Elecsys® electrochemiluminiscent (ECLIA) Anti-SARS-CoV-2 S (Roche Diagnostics, Pleasanton, CA, USA), and LIAISON® SARS-CoV-2 TrimericS IgG chemiluminiscent assay (CLIA) (Diasorin S.p.a, Saluggia, IT) for detection and quantitation of SARS-CoV-2-specific antibodies. A total of 225 serum/plasma specimens from 120 acute or convalescent COVID-19 individuals were included. Overall, IgG/IgA-FCI yielded the highest number of positives (n=179), followed by IgA-FCI (n=177), Roche ECLIA (n=175), IgG-FCI (…

Prevalence estimation of celiac disease in the general adult population of Latvia using serology and HLA genotyping

2015

Background: Prevalence estimates for celiac disease (CD) depend on the method used. The role of deamidated gliadin peptide (DGP) and genetic testing in epidemiological studies and diagnostic settings of celiac disease (CD) has still to be established. Objectives: The objective of this article is to assess the prevalence of CD in Latvia by combining serological tests with DQ2.5/ DQ8 testing. Methods: A total of 1444 adults from a randomly selected cross-sectional general population sample were tested by ELISA for tTG IgA, DGP IgA and IgG antibodies (QUANTA Lite, Inova Diagnostics Inc). Samples with tTG IgA 20U were tested for EMA IgA by indirect immunofluorescence assay, and all specimens wi…

The seroepidemiology of pertussis in Australia during an epidemic period

2006

Studying the epidemiology of pertussis and impact of differing vaccine schedules is difficult because of differing methods of case ascertainment. The advent of internationally standardized serological diagnosis for recent infection has allowed comparison of age-specific pertussis infection among European countries and was applied in Australia at the time of a major national epidemic. In 1997 and 1998, a nationally representative serum bank using residual sera from diagnostic laboratories was established. Measurement of pertussis toxin (PT) IgG level was conducted by a reference laboratory using an enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay standardized for a number of European countries. A titre of …

Patients with allergic and eosinophilic asthma in the German severe asthma registry

2015

Targeted treatment strategies for asthma require a precise diagnosis of phenotypes. 308 adult patients (age mean±SD: 50.3±13.5yrs) with severe asthma from the German Severe Asthma Registry (www.german-asthma-net.de) were evaluated based on history of allergy symptoms, results of skin prick tests, total/specific IgE, and blood cell differentials. 121 patients (39%) showed typical signs of allergic asthma including allergic symptoms and a positive skin prick test and/or specific IgE with no elevated blood eosinophils (median total IgE: 222 (range 4-4023) IU/ml, eosinophils: 128 (0-295)/µl, FeNO: 23 (7-300) ppb). 53 (43.8%) of these patients were treated with omalizumab. 50 patients (16%) had …

Review of European and American guidelines for the diagnosis of Lyme borreliosis

2019

International audience; Lyme disease is a tick-borne bacterial disease with polymorphic clinical manifestations (cutaneous, rheumatological, and neurological). In recent years the issue of the diagnosis of this infection has been highly publicized on the Internet and other media in Europe and America. Some patients and physicians may share the perception that the diagnosis of the infection is not reliable in France. We reviewed current European and American guidelines on Lyme disease and performed a methodological evaluation of all guidelines. We retrieved 16 guidelines from seven countries. Our analysis revealed a global consensus regarding diagnosis at each stage of the infection. All gui…

Evaluation of cytokine polymorphisms (TNFalpha, IFNgamma and IL-10) in Down patients with coeliac disease.

2005

Abstract Background In Down syndrome there is an increased prevalence of coeliac disease, but the reasons for this association are yet unknown. Aims To evaluate a possible correlation between TNFα, IFNγ and IL-10 genotype polymorphisms with the susceptibility to coeliac disease in Down syndrome patients. Methods Single nucleotide polymorphisms of TNFα (−308G → A promoter region), IFNγ (+874T → A promoter region) and IL-10 (−1082G → A promoter region) have been studied in 10 Down patients with coeliac disease, in 40 Down patients without coeliac disease and in 220 healthy controls. Clinical features were also studied in coeliac disease–Down syndrome patients. Results The 10 coeliac disease–D…

Eye Muscle Antibodies in Endocrine Exophthalmos

1989

Serum samples were obtained from 65 patients with endocrine exophthalmos class I-V. In 33/65 patients who were treated either with prednisone or with ciclosporin, blood was sampled before, during and after therapy. Antibodies against eye muscle were determined during the course of immunosuppressive therapy in order to have an objective parameter of the therapeutic effect. To ascertain the specificity of the reaction both eye and abdominal muscles were used as antigens in an ELISA system. Both IgG and IgM antibodies were detected. In 45/65 patients (71%) eye muscle antibodies were positive before starting therapy. Antibodies were mostly detected in patients with active disease. Patients with…
