Quantitative ergodicity for some switched dynamical systems

International audience; We provide quantitative bounds for the long time behavior of a class of Piecewise Deterministic Markov Processes with state space Rd × E where E is a finite set. The continuous component evolves according to a smooth vector field that switches at the jump times of the discrete coordinate. The jump rates may depend on the whole position of the process. Under regularity assumptions on the jump rates and stability conditions for the vector fields we provide explicit exponential upper bounds for the convergence to equilibrium in terms of Wasserstein distances. As an example, we obtain convergence results for a stochastic version of the Morris-Lecar model of neurobiology.
Donsker-Type Theorem for BSDEs: Rate of Convergence

In this paper, we study in the Markovian case the rate of convergence in Wasserstein distance when the solution to a BSDE is approximated by a solution to a BSDE driven by a scaled random walk as introduced in Briand, Delyon and Mémin (Electron. Commun. Probab. 6 (2001) Art. ID 1). This is related to the approximation of solutions to semilinear second order parabolic PDEs by solutions to their associated finite difference schemes and the speed of convergence. peerReviewed
The kinematics of water masers in the stellar molecular outflow source, IRAS 19134+2131

Using the Very Large Array (VLA) and the Very Long Baseline Array (VLBA), we have observed water maser emission in the proto-planetary nebula candidate IRAS 19134+2131, in which the water maser spectrum has two groups of emission features separated in radial velocity by ∼100 km s^−1. The blue-shifted and red-shifted clusters of maser features are clearly separated spatially by ∼150 mas, indicative of a fast collimated flow. However, not all of the maser features are aligned along the axis of the flow, as is seen in the similar high-velocity water maser source, W43A. The aim of this article is to present the results of a questionnaire-based study carried out as part of the author’s Master’s Degree dissertation about Subtitles for the Deaf and Hard-of-hearing (SDH). In particular, the need to gather specific information regarding audience design will be highlighted in the paper, since this research field has long been neglected in Italy. The questions were aimed at shedding light on the needs, cultural environment and world-view of Italian SDH users, by eliciting personal data as well as subtitlerelated information. Diode laser spectroscopy of the nu(8) band of the SF(5)Cl molecule.

Abstract Diode laser spectra of SF 5 Cl have been recorded in the ν 8 band region at a temperature of ca. 240 K, a pressure of 0.25 mbar and an instrumental bandwidth of ca. 0.001 cm −1 . Four regions have been studied: a first one in the P -branch (906.849–907.687 cm −1 ), a second one in the Q -branch (910.407–910.944 cm −1 ), and two other ones in the R -branch (913.957–914.556 and 917.853–918.705 cm −1 ). The whole ν 1 / ν 8 dyad of SF 5 35 Cl has been previously recorded in the group of Professor H. Burger in Wuppertal, thanks to a Fourier transform infrared spectrometer [J. Mol. Phase-bistable patterns and cavity solitons induced by spatially periodic injection into vertical-cavity surface-emitting lasers

Spatial rocking is a kind of resonant forcing able to convert a self-oscillatory system into a phase-bistable, pattern forming system, whereby the phase of the spatially averaged oscillation field locks to one of two values differing by $\ensuremath{\pi}$. We propose the spatial rocking in an experimentally relevant system---the vertical-cavity surface-emitting laser (VCSEL)---and demonstrate its feasibility through analytical and numerical tools applied to a VCSEL model. We show phase bistability, spatial patterns, such as roll patterns, domain walls, and phase (dark-ring) solitons, which could be useful for optical information storage and processing purposes.
Scanning from heating: 3D shape estimation of transparent objects from local surface heating.

Today, with quality becoming increasingly important, each product requires three-dimensional in-line quality control. On the other hand, the 3D reconstruction of transparent objects is a very difficult problem in computer vision due to transparency and specularity of the surface. This paper proposes a new method, called Scanning From Heating (SFH), to determine the surface shape of transparent objects using laser surface heating and thermal imaging. Furthermore, the application to transparent glass is discussed and results on different surface shapes are presented.

RSE (Road Safety Education) is well recognized as a reliable predictor of future safety and health outcomes. However, most countries have been slow to develop it, which has contributed to the sensitivity of the situation, as traffic accidents continue to be a major concern for community health. Polymorphism-Triggered Reversible Thermochromic Fluorescence of a simple 1,8-Naphthyridine

The fluorescent behavior in the solid state of a naphthyridine-based donor–acceptor heterocycle is presented. Synthesized as a crystalline blue-emissive solid (Pbca), the compound can easily be transformed in its P21/c polymorphic form by heating. The latter material shows blue to cyan emission switching triggered by a reversible thermally induced phase transformation. This fact, the reversible acidochromism, and the strong anisotropic fluorescence of the compound in the solid state, account for the potential of 1,8-naphthyridines as simple and highly tunable organic compounds in materials science.
A study of electron transfer in Ru(dcbpy)2(NCS)2 sensitized nanocrystalline TiO2 and SnO2 films induced by red-wing excitation.

Excited state dynamics and electron transfer from the Ru(dcbpy)2(NCS)2 (RuN3) sensitizer to semiconductor nanoparticles were studied using time-resolved femtosecond absorption spectroscopy. We found that excitation of the red wing of the absorption spectrum of the sensitizer populates the (3)MLCT state directly, both in solution and attached on semiconductor nanoparticle films. Electron injection is slowed down and becomes gradually less efficient as excitation moves towards red from the absorption maximum at 535 nm. At 675 nm the injection is non-exponential and characterized by 5, 30 and 180 ps time constants. The non-exponential electron injection observed is assigned to injection from a…
