Introduction Chronic hepatitis C is the main cause of death in patients with end-stage liver disease. Prognosis depends on the increase of fibrosis, whose progression is twice as rapid in men as in women. Aim of the study was to evaluate the effects of reproductive stage on fibrosis severity in women and to compare these findings with age-matched men. Materials and Methods A retrospective study of 710 consecutive patients with biopsy-proven chronic hepatitis C was conducted, using data from a clinical database of two tertiary Italian care centers. Clinical Utility of Midregional Proadrenomedullin in Patients with COVID-19

Abstract Objective The aim of the study was to assess the role of midregional proadrenomedullin (MR-proADM) in patients with COVID-19. Methods We included 110 patients hospitalized for COVID-19. Biochemical biomarkers, including MR-proADM, were measured at admission. The association of plasma MR-proADM levels with COVID-19 severity, defined as a requirement for mechanical ventilation or in-hospital mortality, was evaluated. Results Patients showed increased levels of MR-proADM. This study aimed to assess the time course of circulating neutrophil and lymphocyte counts and their ratio (NLR) in ST-segment elevation myocardial infarction (STEMI) and coronavirus disease (COVID)-19 and explore their associations with clinical events and structural damage. Low 25-OH vitamin D serum levels correlate with severe fibrosis in HIV-HCV co-infected patients with chronic hepatitis.

Background & Aims Recent findings in hepatitis C virus (HCV)-monoinfected patients have shown a correlation between low serum levels of 25-OH vitamin D3 [25(OH)D3] and severe liver fibrosis and low sustained virologic response to therapy. Data are lacking in HIV-HCV coinfected patients.
