Charge-exchange reactions on double-βdecaying nuclei populatingJπ=2−states

The $(\phantom{\rule{0.16em}{0ex}}^{3}\mathrm{He},t)$ charge-exchange reaction populating ${J}^{\ensuremath{\pi}}={2}^{\ensuremath{-}}$ states has been examined at 420 MeV incident energy for a series of double-$\ensuremath{\beta}$ decaying nuclei, i.e., $^{76}\mathrm{Ge}$, $^{82}\mathrm{Se}$, $^{96}\mathrm{Zr}$, $^{100}\mathrm{Mo}$, $^{128}\mathrm{Te}$, $^{130}\mathrm{Te}$, and $^{136}\mathrm{Xe}$. The measurements were carried out at the Grand Raiden spectrometer of the Research Center for Nuclear Physics at the University Osaka with typical spectral resolution of 30--40 keV. Examining the N=28 shell closure through high-precision mass measurements of Ar46–48

The strength of the $N=28$ magic number in neutron-rich argon isotopes is examined through high-precision mass measurements of $^{46\text{--}48}\mathrm{Ar}$, performed with the ISOLTRAP mass spectrometer at ISOLDE/CERN. The new mass values are up to 90 times more precise than previous measurements. While they suggest the persistence of the $N=28$ shell closure for argon, we show that this conclusion has to be nuanced in light of the wealth of spectroscopic data and theoretical investigations performed with the SDPF-U phenomenological shell model interaction. Two-Phonon Octupole Excitation in 146Gd

The excited states in 146Gd have been re‐investigated with the 144Sm(α,2n) reaction using a modern Ge γ‐ray array including a polarimeter. Amongst the non‐yrast states populated in this reaction we have identified the aligned 6+ member of the two‐phonon octupole quartet from the observation of the E3 branching to the one phonon 3− state. Our results represent the first observation of a 6+→3−→0+ E3 cascade in an even‐even nucleus.
Systematic study of shell-model effective interaction insdshell

The spin-tensor decomposition method has been used to analyse the shell model effective interactions in sd shell systematically. Almost all the interactions have been studied, including the microscopic interactions and phenomenological ones. It can be noticed that the discrepancies between the central force of microscopic interactions with the ones of empirical interactions are remarkable.
Spins and Magnetic Moments ofK49andK51: Establishing the1/2+and3/2+Level Ordering BeyondN=28

The ground-state spins and magnetic moments of $^{49,51}\mathrm{K}$ have been measured using bunched-beam high-resolution collinear laser spectroscopy at ISOLDE CERN. For $^{49}\mathrm{K}$ a ground-state spin $I=1/2$ was firmly established. The observed hyperfine structure of $^{51}\mathrm{K}$ requires a spin $Ig1/2$ and strongly suggests $I=3/2$. From its magnetic moment $\ensuremath{\mu}(^{51}\mathrm{K})=+0.5129(22){\ensuremath{\mu}}_{N}$ a spin-parity ${I}^{\ensuremath{\pi}}=3/{2}^{+}$ with a dominant $\ensuremath{\pi}1{d}_{3/2}^{\ensuremath{-}1}$ hole configuration was deduced. Effective values of the axial-vector coupling constant ${g}_{\mathrm{A}}$ have lately attracted much attention due to the prominent role of ${g}_{\mathrm{A}}$ in determining the half-lives of double $\ensuremath{\beta}$ decays, in particular their neutrinoless mode. The half-life method, i.e., comparing the calculated half-lives to the corresponding experimental ones, is the most widely used method to access the effective values of ${g}_{\mathrm{A}}$. Forbidden nonuniqueβdecays and effective values of weak coupling constants

Forbidden nonunique $\ensuremath{\beta}$ decays feature shape functions that are complicated combinations of different nuclear matrix elements and phase-space factors. Furthermore, they depend in a very nontrivial way on the values of the weak coupling constants, ${g}_{\mathrm{V}}$ for the vector part and ${g}_{\mathrm{A}}$ for the axial-vector part. In this work we include also the usually omitted second-order terms in the shape functions to see their effect on the computed decay half-lives and electron spectra ($\ensuremath{\beta}$ spectra). Octupole states in Tl207 studied through β decay

The β decay of 207Hg into the single-proton-hole nucleus 207Tl has been studied through γ-ray spectroscopy at the ISOLDE Decay Station (IDS) with the aim of identifying states resulting from coupling of the πs−11/2, πd−13/2, and πh−111/2 shell model orbitals to the collective octupole vibration. Twenty-two states were observed lying between 2.6 and 4.0 MeV, eleven of which were observed for the first time, and 78 new transitions were placed. Two octupole states (s1/2-coupled) are identified and three more states (d3/2-coupled) are tentatively assigned using spin-parity inferences, while further h11/2-coupled states may also have been observed for the first time. Isomer Spectroscopy in90216Th126and the Magicity of92218U126

Excited states in (216)Th were investigated via prompt and delayed gamma decays and the recoil-decay tagging method. The decay schemes of the I(pi) = (8+), t(1/2) = 128(8) micros, the I(pi) = (11-), t(1/2) = 615(55) ns, and the I(pi) = (14+), t(1/2) > or = 130 ns isomers were established. The configuration pi h(9/2)f(7/2) is assigned to the I(pi) = (8+) isomer, which implies that the h(9/2) and f(7/2) states are nearly degenerate. This is ascribed to increased binding of the f(7/2) orbital by its coupling to a low-lying I(pi) = (3-) state at E(x) = 1687 keV. β decay of Cd127 and excited states in In127

A dedicated spectroscopic study of the β decay of 127Cd was conducted at the IGISOL facility at the University of Jyvaskyla. Following high-resolution mass separation in a Penning trap, β-γ-γ coincidences were used to considerably extend the decay scheme of 127In. The β-decaying 3/2+ and 11/2- states in 127Cd have been identified with the 127Cd ground state and the 283-keV isomer. Their respective half-lives have been measured to 0.45(+12-8)s and 0.36(4) s. The experimentally observed β feeding to excited states of 127In and the decay scheme of 127In are discussed in conjunction with large-scale shell-model calculations.
