Considering malignant transformation as a cellular stress, the expression of heat shock proteins (HSPs) may be affected in this process. In this study we assessed the expression of HSP105 and HSP27 as two of the most interested stress proteins and investigated their relationship with grade and stage of the tongue SCC. Studies on the kinetics and renal excretion of low and high molecular weight dextrans in preterm babies, newborns and young infants.

Administration of low and high molecular weight dextrans in the initial phase of shock is no longer controversial. The special conditions in newborns, however, have been insufficiently considered in planning therapy. This investigation aimed at determining the biological half-lives of dextran 40 (Rheomacrodex®) and dextran 60 (Macrodex®) in this age group. The half-life of dextran 40 was found to be 60 min and that of dextran 60 3 h. Preterm babies and newborns excrete up to 25% less dextran 40 and 60 in 24 h than infants and adults. Normal adult values for excretion are only reached towards the end of the first year of life.
Heat shock proteins in three relatedDrosophila species belonging to theobscura group

The effect of heat shock on protein synthesis in three related Drosophila species belonging to the obscura group was analyzed on SDS-acrylamide gels. Four major heat shock proteins (hsps) were found in these species, in which synthesis reaches a maximum at 34 degrees C. Although the higher molecular weight proteins are conserved, differences in size were found for the small hsps in these species. By means of in situ hybridization using D. melanogaster probes for the small hsp genes, it was inferred that the small hsp genes of the obscura group species are clustered at the 27A locus in all three species.

Comment on “Molybdenum sound velocity and shear modulus softening under shock compression”

In this Comment we discuss recent results presented by Nguyen et al. on shock compressed molybdenum up to 438 GPa [Phys. Rev. B 89, 174109 (2014)]. The aim of Nguyen's article is to show that there is no phase transition near 210 GPa. We propose instead an interpretation of their data that this material shows the onset of partial melting along the Hugoniot at $240(20)\phantom{\rule{0.28em}{0ex}}\mathrm{GPa}$, which is evident from abrupt changes in the pressure dependence of the shear modulus. This interpretation may solve the significant controversy in the melting slopes derived from shock and static experiments.

The aim of this study was to characterize the functional relevance of the transcription factor NF-κB in the pathogenesis of septic shock. BALB/c mice were infected with two wild-type (WT 1, WT 2) strains of S. typhimurium that induce NF-κB or an escape variant that lacks this ability (P21) at a dose of 1 × 109/animal, respectively. Furthermore, wild-type infected mice were treated with antisense oligonucleotides directed against NF-κB 24 h before and 3 or 6 h after infection, while mismatched oligonucleotides were used as controls. Using a special apparatus for high resolution cinephotomicrography, which allows simultaneous observation and recording of microcirculatory changes, alterations in blood flow patterns and in red cell shape during norepinephrine acting have been studied. Under physiological conditions, and during slowing of capillary blood flow due to gradual removing of 20–25% of the circulating blood volume, the normal red cells are extremely deformable while passing through mesenteric capillaries. Diagnosing shock temperature with NH3and H2O profiles

In a previous study of the L1157 B1 shocked cavity, a comparison between NH$_3$(1$_0$-$0_0$) and H$_2$O(1$_{\rm 10}$--1$_{\rm 01}$) transitions showed a striking difference in the profiles, with H$_2$O emitting at definitely higher velocities. This behaviour was explained as a result of the high-temperature gas-phase chemistry occurring in the postshock gas in the B1 cavity of this outflow. If the differences in behaviour between ammonia and water are indeed a consequence of the high gas temperatures reached during the passage of a shock, then one should find such differences to be ubiquitous among chemically rich outflows. International audience; The dynamics of YSO accretion shocks is determined by radiative processes as well as the strength and structure of the magnetic field. A quasi-periodic emission signature is theoretically expected to be observed, but observations do not confirm any such pattern. In this work, we assume a uniform background field, in the regime of optically thin energy losses, and we study the multi-dimensional shock evolution in the presence of perturbations, i.e. clumps in the stream and an acoustic energy flux flowing at the base of the chromosphere. Probing the effects of hadronic acceleration at the SN 1006 shock front

AbstractSupernova remnant shocks are strong candidates for being the source of energetic cosmic rays and hadron acceleration is expected to increase the shock compression ratio, providing higher post-shock densities. We exploited the deep observations of the XMM-Newton Large Program on SN 1006 to verify this prediction. Spatially resolved spectral analysis led us to detect X-ray emission from the shocked ambient medium in SN 1006 and to find that its density significantly increases in regions where particle acceleration is efficient. Our results provide evidence for the effects of acceleration of cosmic ray hadrons on the post-shock plasma in supernova remnants.
