On the measurement of leptonic CP violation
2001
We show that the simultaneous determination of the leptonic CP-odd phase $\delta$ and the angle $\theta_{13}$ from the subleading transitions $\nu_e\to\nu_\mu$ and ${\bar\nu}_e\to{\bar\nu}_\mu$ results generically, at fixed neutrino energy and baseline, in two degenerate solutions. In light of this, we refine a previous analysis of the sensitivity to leptonic CP violation at a neutrino factory, in the LMA-MSW scenario, by exploring the full range of $\delta$ and $\theta_{13}$. Furthermore, we take into account the expected uncertainties on the solar and atmospheric oscillation parameters and in the average Earth matter density along the neutrino path. An intermediate baseline of O(3000) km …
Search for new physics inlepton+photon+Xevents with929 pb−1ofpp¯collisions ats=1.96 TeV
2007
The authors present results of a search for anomalous production of events containing a charged lepton ({ell}, either e or {mu}) and a photon ({gamma}), both with high transverse momentum, accompanied by additional signatures, X, including missing transverse energy (E{sub T}) and additional leptons and photons. We use the same kinematic selection criteria as in a previous CDF search, but with a substantially larger data set, 305 pb{sup -1}, a p{bar p} collision energy of 1.96 TeV, and the upgraded CDF II detector. We find 42 {ell}{gamma}E{sub T} events versus a standard model expectation of 37.3 {+-} 5.4 events. The level of excess observed in Run I, 16 events with an expectation of 7.6 {+-…
Radiative return at e+e- factories
2002
The energy dependence of the electron - positron hadronic cross section can be measured not only by a straightforward energy scan, but also by means of the radiative return method. To provide extensive comparisons between theory and experiment a Monte Carlo event generator is an indispensable tool. We have developed such a generator called PHOKHARA, which simulates e+e- -> mesons + photon(s) processes. In this paper we present its latest tests and upgrades.
Unitary model for theγp→γπ0preaction and the magnetic dipole moment of theΔ+(1232)
2005
Radiative pion photoproduction in the $\ensuremath{\Delta}(1232)$-resonance region is studied with the aim of accessing the ${\ensuremath{\Delta}}^{+}(1232)$ magnetic dipole moment. We present a unitary model of the $\ensuremath{\gamma}p\ensuremath{\rightarrow}\ensuremath{\gamma}\ensuremath{\pi}N$ ($\ensuremath{\pi}N={\ensuremath{\pi}}^{0}p,\phantom{\rule{0.6em}{0ex}}{\ensuremath{\pi}}^{+}n$) reactions, where the $\ensuremath{\pi}N$ rescattering is included in an onshell approximation. In this model, the low-energy theorem which couples the $\ensuremath{\gamma}p\ensuremath{\rightarrow}\ensuremath{\gamma}\ensuremath{\pi}N$ process in the limit of a soft final photon to the $\ensuremath{\gamm…
Charm-quark mass from weighted finite energy QCD sum rules
2010
The running charm-quark mass in the scheme is determined from weighted finite energy QCD sum rules involving the vector current correlator. Only the short distance expansion of this correlator is used, together with integration kernels (weights) involving positive powers of s, the squared energy. The optimal kernels are found to be a simple pinched kernel and polynomials of the Legendre type. The former kernel reduces potential duality violations near the real axis in the complex s plane, and the latter allows us to extend the analysis to energy regions beyond the end point of the data. These kernels, together with the high energy expansion of the correlator, weigh the experimental and theo…
Theoretical analysis of the pp¯→π0e+e− process within a Regge framework
2013
Abstract We study the annihilation process p p ¯ → π 0 e + e − within a Regge framework, as a means to provide constraints on timelike nucleon form factors. We present results for the e + e − angular distributions and the differential cross sections in kinematics which will be accessible by PANDA@FAIR. To check the consistency of the model, we first test the approach on the process of real photon production, p ¯ p → π 0 γ , where data in the energy range of 2.911 GeV ⩽ s ⩽ 3.686 GeV exist. We find that a Regge pole model is able to well reproduce the available data. The analysis is then extended to a timelike virtual photon in the final state.
Implications of a Rotating Mass Matrix
2001
The fermion mass matrix, in addition to having eigenvalues (masses) which run, also changes its orientation (rotates) with changing energy scales. This means that its eigenstates at one scale will no longer be eigenstates at another scale, leading to effects where fermions of different flavours can ``transmute'' into one another. In this paper, the implications of a rotating mass matrix are analysed and possible transmuation effects are investigated both in the Standard Model (SM) and in the so-called Dualized Standard Model (DSM) that we advocate, arriving at the conclusion that some transmutational decays such as $\psi \longrightarrow \mu \tau$, $\Upsilon \longrightarrow \mu \tau$ or $\pi…
Searching the inclusiveℓγE̸T+b-quark signature for radiative top quark decay and non-standard-model processes
2009
We compare the inclusive production of events containing a lepton (l), a photon ({gamma}), significant transverse momentum imbalance (Ee{sub T}), and a jet identified as containing a b-quark, to SM predictions. The search uses data produced in proton-antiproton collisions at {radical}(s)=1.96 TeV corresponding to 1.9 fb{sup -1} of integrated luminosity taken with the CDF detector. We find 28 l{gamma}bEe{sub T} events versus an expectation of 31.0{sub -3.5}{sup +4.1} events. If we further require events to contain at least three jets and large total transverse energy, the largest SM source is radiative top-quark pair production, tt+{gamma}. In the data we observe 16 tt{gamma} candidate event…
Top quark mass measurement in thett¯all hadronic channel using a matrix element technique inpp¯collisions ats=1.96 TeV
2009
We present a measurement of the top quark mass in the all hadronic channel ($t\overline{t}\ensuremath{\rightarrow}b\overline{b}{q}_{1}{\overline{q}}_{2}{q}_{3}{\overline{q}}_{4}$) using $943\text{ }\text{ }{\mathrm{pb}}^{\ensuremath{-}1}$ of $p\overline{p}$ collisions at $\sqrt{s}=1.96\text{ }\text{ }\mathrm{TeV}$ collected at the CDF II detector at Fermilab (CDF). We apply the standard model production and decay matrix element (ME) to $t\overline{t}$ candidate events. We calculate per-event probability densities according to the ME calculation and construct template models of signal and background. The scale of the jet energy is calibrated using additional templates formed with the invaria…
Measurements of single top quark production cross sections and|Vtb|inpp¯collisions ats=1.96 TeV
2011
We present measurements of production cross sections of single top quarks in $\ppbar$ collisions at $\sqrt{s}=1.96\;\rm TeV$ in a data sample corresponding to an integrated luminosity of $5.4\;\rm fb^{-1}$ collected by the D0 detector at the Fermilab Tevatron Collider. We select events with an isolated electron or muon, an imbalance in transverse energy, and two, three, or four jets, with one or two of them containing a bottom hadron. We obtain an inclusive cross section of $\sigma({\ppbar}{\rargap}tb+X, tqb+X) = 3.43\pm^{0.73}_{0.74}\;\rm pb$ and use it to extract the CKM matrix element $0.79 < |V_{tb}| \leq 1$ at the 95% C.L. We also measure $\sigma({\ppbar}{\rargap}tb+X) = 0.68\pm^{0.38}…
