Collective excitations in the transitional nucleiRe163andRe165

Excited states in the neutron-deficient nuclei ${}_{75}^{163}{\mathrm{Re}}_{88}$ and ${}_{75}^{165}{\mathrm{Re}}_{90}$ were populated in the ${}^{106}{\mathrm{Cd}(}^{60}\mathrm{Ni},\phantom{\rule{0.16em}{0ex}}p2n\ensuremath{\gamma})$ and ${}^{92}{\mathrm{Mo}(}^{78}\mathrm{Kr}$, $3p2n\ensuremath{\gamma})$ fusion-evaporation reactions at bombarding energies of 270 and 380 MeV, respectively. \ensuremath{\gamma} rays were detected at the target position using the JUROGAM spectrometer while recoiling ions were separated in-flight by the RITU gas-filled recoil separator and implanted in the GREAT spectrometer. Fracture processes studied in CRESST

In the early stages of running of the CRESST dark matter search with sapphire crystals as detectors, an unexpectedly high rate of signal pulses appeared. Their origin was finally traced to fracture events in the sapphire due to the very tight clamping of the detectors. During extensive runs the energy and time of each event was recorded, providing large data sets for such phenomena. We believe this is the first time that the energy release in fracture has been accurately measured on a microscopic event-by-event basis. Tests of Lobster Eye Optics for Small Space X-ray Telescope

Abstract The Lobster eye design for a grazing incidence X-ray optics provides wide field of view of the order of many degrees, for this reason it can be a convenient approach for the construction of space all-sky X-ray monitors. We present preliminary results of tests of prototype lobster eye X-ray optics in quasi parallel beam full imaging mode conducted using the 35 m long X-ray beam-line of INAF-OAPA in Palermo (Italy). X-ray images at the focal plane have been taken with a microchannel plate (MCP) detector at several energy values from 0.3 to 8 keV. The gain, the field of view and the angular resolution have been measured and compared with theoretical values.

Pulse shape analysis of liquid scintillators for neutron studies

The acquisition of signals from liquid scintillators with Flash ADC of high sampling rate ð 1G S=sÞ has been investigated. The possibility to record the signal waveform is of great advantage in studies with g’s and neutrons in a high count-rate environment, as it allows to easily identify and separate pile-up events. The shapes of pulses produced by g-rays and neutrons have been studied for two different liquid scintillators, NE213 and C6D6: A 1-parameter fitting procedure is proposed, which allows to extract information on the particle type and energy. Enhanced radiation pressure-assisted acceleration by temporally tuned counter-propagating pulses

Within the last decade, laser-ion acceleration has become a field of broad interest. The possibility to generate short proton- or heavy ion bunches with an energy of a few tens of MeV by table-top laser systems could open new opportunities for medical or technical applications. High-rate dead-time corrections in a general purpose digital pulse processing system

The abilities on dead-time correction of a real-time digital pulse processing (DPP) system for high-rate high-resolution radiation measurements are presented. The DPP system, through a fast and slow analysis of the output waveform from radiation detectors, is able to perform an accurate estimation of the true input counting rate (ICR), a fine pulse height (energy) and shape (peaking time) analysis even at high ICRs.

Exclusive measurement of breakup reactions with the one-neutron halo nucleus11Be

Electromagnetic and nuclear inelastic scattering of the halo nucleus ${}^{11}\mathrm{Be}$ have been investigated by a measurement of the one-neutron removal channel, utilizing a secondary ${}^{11}\mathrm{Be}$ beam with an energy of 520 MeV/nucleon impinging on lead and carbon targets. All decay products, i.e., ${}^{10}\mathrm{Be}$ fragments, neutrons, and $\ensuremath{\gamma}$ rays have been detected in coincidence. Partial cross sections for the population of ground and excited states in ${}^{10}\mathrm{Be}$ were determined for nuclear diffractive breakup as well as for electromagnetically induced breakup. The ATLAS tile calorimeter ROD injector and multiplexer board

Abstract The ATLAS Tile Calorimeter is a sampling detector composed by cells made of iron-scintillator tiles. The calorimeter cell signals are digitized in the front-end electronics and transmitted to the Read-Out Drivers (RODs) at the first level trigger rate. The ROD receives triggered data from up to 9856 channels and provides the energy, phase and quality factor of the signals to the second level trigger. The back-end electronics is divided into four partitions containing eight RODs each. Therefore, a total of 32 RODs are used to process and transmit the data of the TileCal detector. Systematics of the α-decay to rotational states

We analyze \ensuremath{\alpha} decays to rotational states in even-even nuclei by using the stationary coupled channels approach. Collective excitations are described by the rigid rotator model. The \ensuremath{\alpha}-nucleus interaction is given by a double folding procedure using M3Y plus Coulomb nucleon-nucleon forces. We use a harmonic oscillator repulsive potential with one independent parameter, to simulate the Pauli principle. The decaying state is identified with the first resonance inside the resulting pocketlike potential. Schematic and realistic model calculations of the isovector spin monopole excitations in 116In

The excitation of Gamow-Teller (GT) and isovector spin monopole (IVSM) Jπ=1+ modes in 116In by (p,n) and (n,p) charge-exchange reactions on 116Cd and on 116Sn, respectively, is studied within the framework of the quasiparticle random-phase approximation. The calculations have been performed both for schematic and realistic model situations. It appears that the calculated admixture of the IVSM and Gamow-Teller (GT) Jπ=1+ excitations is negligible and that the contribution to the strength above 20 MeV of excitation energy, in 116In, is due to the IVSM (σr2t ±) mode.
