Configurable Passband Imaging Spectrometer Based on Acousto-optic Tunable Filter

This work presents a new configurable imaging spectrometer called Autonomous Tunable Filtering System (ATFS). The system can be configured to acquire a single narrow spectral band, a composite multispectral image, or a broad pass-band. This flexibility is given by the use of an Acousto-Optic Tunable Filter (AOTF) driven by a programmable radio frequency (rf) signal generator. The AOTF acts as a light-diffraction element which output wavelength is selected by the frequency of an rf signal applied to it. Particle Group Metropolis Methods for Tracking the Leaf Area Index

Monte Carlo (MC) algorithms are widely used for Bayesian inference in statistics, signal processing, and machine learning. In this work, we introduce an Markov Chain Monte Carlo (MCMC) technique driven by a particle filter. The resulting scheme is a generalization of the so-called Particle Metropolis-Hastings (PMH) method, where a suitable Markov chain of sets of weighted samples is generated. We also introduce a marginal version for the goal of jointly inferring dynamic and static variables. The proposed algorithms outperform the corresponding standard PMH schemes, as shown by numerical experiments.

Abstract The field of Compressive Sensing (CS) has provided algorithms to reconstruct signals from a much lower number of measurements than specified by the Nyquist-Shannon theorem. There are two fundamental concepts underpinning the field of CS. The first is the use of random transformations to project high-dimensional measurements onto a much lower-dimensional domain. The second is the use of sparse regression to reconstruct the original signal. This assumes that a sparse representation exists for this signal in some known domain, manifested by a dictionary. Cell-average WENO with progressive order of accuracy close to discontinuities with applications to signal processing

In this paper we translate to the cell-average setting the algorithm for the point-value discretization presented in S. Amat, J. Ruiz, C.-W. Shu, D. F. Y\'a\~nez, A new WENO-2r algorithm with progressive order of accuracy close to discontinuities, submitted to SIAM J. Numer. Anal.. This new strategy tries to improve the results of WENO-($2r-1$) algorithm close to the singularities, resulting in an optimal order of accuracy at these zones. Adaptive motion estimation and video vector quantization based on spatiotemporal non-linearities of human perception

The two main tasks of a video coding system are motion estimation and vector quantization of the signal. In this work a new splitting criterion to control the adaptive decomposition for the non-uniform optical flow estimation is exposed. Also, a novel bit allocation procedure is proposed for the quantization of the DCT transform of the video signal. These new approaches are founded on a perception model that reproduce the relative importance given by the human visual system to any location in the spatial frequency, temporal frequency and amplitude domain of the DCT transform. Objectives: The goals of this study were to validate the use of accelerometers by means of multiple linear models (MLMs) to estimate the O2 consumption (VO2) in paraplegic persons and to determine the best placement for accelerometers on the human body. For this task, we employ multiple audio feature extraction techniques like the mel-frequency cepstral coefficients, gammatone frequency cepstral coefficients, constant Q-transform and chromagram. Cubic Local Splines on Non-uniform Grid

In this chapter, two types of local cubic splines on non-uniform grids are described: 1. The simplest variation-diminishing splines and 2. The quasi-interpolating splines. The splines are computed by a simple fast computational algorithms that utilizes a relation between the splines and cubic interpolation polynomials. Those splines can serve as an efficient tool for real-time signal processing. As an input, they use either clean or noised arbitrarily-spaced samples. On the other hand, the capability to adapt the grid to the structure of an object and minimal requirements to the operating memory are great advantages for off-line processing of signals and multidimensional data arrays.
