Finnish forest-based companies in transition to the circular bioeconomy : drivers, organizational resources and innovations

Abstract Forest-based businesses are the center of the transition to the sustainable and competitive circular bioeconomy in Finland. This study explores the transition of Finnish FBS firms to new business models, with a focus on the organizational resources and capabilities needed for transition. It also identifies the important elements in the business environment and the role of innovations in this process. The study uses thematic interviews with managers from various FBS firms and companies from interfacing sectors, all of which have operations in Finland. This longitudinal study investigated the role of parents and peers as well as of education-related goal motivation during educational transitioning in late adolescence. The sample consisted of 1520 upper secondary education students attending either academic or vocational upper secondary school in Finland. They were surveyed three times: (1) in the first year of their upper secondary education, (2) in the second year of their upper secondary education, and (3) two years later. Transitioning from adolescence to adulthood for young people living with cerebral palsy : a meta-ethnography

Transitioning from adolescence to adulthood appears to be a challenging period for young people living with cerebral palsy. The aim of this review was to highlight the challenges that might be experienced during this period. A systematic search of the literature and meta-ethnographic review examined seven qualitative research papers providing a detailed synthesis in the form of three domains summarised as ‘meaningful preparation for transition’, ‘becoming empowered’, and, ‘overcoming vulnerability’. Tutkimuksen tarkoituksena oli selvittää, millaisia koulusiirtymiin liittyviä huolia esiopetusikäisillä ja kuudesluokkalaisilla lapsilla on siirtymissä esiopetuksesta alakouluun ja alakoulusta yläkouluun. Tutkimuksessa selvitettiin myös, millaisia huolia (ts. oppilaiden mainitsemia mietityttäviä tai pelottavia asioita) erityisesti ulospäinsuuntautuvia ongelmia (mm. käyttäytymisen ja tarkkaavuuden ongelmat) omaavilla lapsilla on koulusiirtymiin liittyen. Nuorten syrjäytymisestä on viime vuosina oltu huolissaan. Pahimmillaan siirtymä alakoulusta yläkouluun toimii syrjäytymiseen johtavana kuiluna koulutuspolulla. Herkkään siirtymäaikaan liittyvät riskitekijät olisi tärkeää tunnistaa ennaltaehkäisyn tueksi. Tämän pro gradu –tutkimuksen tarkoituksena oli tarkastella oppilaiden siirtymäkokemusten kehitystä alakoulusta yläkouluun. Changes in achievement values from primary to lower secondary school among students with and without externalizing problems

This study examined the effect of students' externalizing problems on changes in values that they attach to math across the transition from primary to lower secondary school. Data pertaining to externalizing problems and to intrinsic, attainment, and utility values in math were gathered using the self-ratings of students in Grades 6 and 7. The analysis involved a comparison between students who reported persistent high externalizing problems before and after the transition (n = 63; 59% boys) and those who had low or non-existent externalizing problems before and after the transition (n = 1352; 50% boys). This study examined the role of learning difficulties in academic emotions and achievement across the transition to lower secondary school among 848 Finnish adolescents. Reading difficulties (RD) and math difficulties (MD) were identified based on test scores in Grade 6 and 7. Students with difficulties were identified as having resolving, emerging, or persistent RD/MD. Students rated their academic emotions and information on students’ academic achievement was acquired from school registers. Mahdollisuudet siirtyä ammatillisesta koulutuksesta jatko-opintoihin korkea-asteelle erottelevat Pohjoismaisia koulutusjärjestelmiä. Artikkelissa vertaillaan neljän Pohjoismaan, Suomen, Ruotsin, Norjan ja Tanskan nuorten ammatillisen koulutuksen väyliä tästä näkökulmasta: miten ne mahdollistavat siirtymät korkea-asteelle.
