FeOOH and Mn8O10Cl3modified zeolites for As(V) removal in aqueous medium
2017
BACKGROUND Arsenic in drinking water poses serious potential health risks in more than 30 countries with total affected population of around 100 million people. The present study is devoted to the development of innovative sorbents based on zeolite materials for As(V) sorption by modifying raw materials with iron oxyhydroxide and manganese oxychloride. Natural clinoptilolite and synthetic zeolite A were modified in order to obtain improved sorption of As(V). Sorption properties of newly developed sorbents were studied. Zeolites containing natural clinoptilolite are chosen due to relatively low cost and their broad use in industrial production as well as characteristic large surface area. RE…

Direct Synthesis of Aluminosilicate IWR Zeolite from a Strong Interaction between Zeolite Framework and Organic Template.
2019
A large amount of zeolite structures are still not synthetically available or not available in the form of aluminosilicate currently. Despite significant progress in the development of predictive concepts for zeolite synthesis, accessing some of these new materials is still challenging. One example is the IWR structure as well. Despite successful synthesis of Ge-based IWR zeolites, direct synthesis of aluminosilicate IWR zeolite is still not successful. In this report we show how a suitable organic structure directing agent (OSDA), through modeling of an OSDA/zeolite cage interaction, could access directly the aluminum-containing IWR structure (denoted as COE-6), which might allow access to…
Der meteorit von Breitscheid—III petrographische untersuchung
1959
Abstract The meteorite of Breitscheid is a grey-veined bronzite-olivine-chondrite containing nickel-iron and troilite. It has a remarkably high volume of pores of about 10 per cent. The density of the solid is 3·7, of the stone as a whole 3.3. The chondrules take about 20 per cent of the volume of the stone. The ore minerals are: nickel-iron (kamacite and taenite), troilite, chromite, ilmenite and besides, in the melting crust, magnetite. Especially ilmenite—until recently doubtful as a constituent of meteorites—could be proved in a convincing manner. The silicate constituents are: olivine, bronzite, clinopyroxene, plagioclase (?), glass and a few minerals which could not be identified. The…
Efficient Removal of Methyl Red Dye by Using Bark of Hopbush
2022
Methyl red (MR) dye, one of the azo dyes, is mutagenic and its persistence has negative effects on the environment and people’s health. The current work is the first to demonstrate that methyl red dye can be removed effectively and sustainably, utilizing biomass derived from the bark of the Dodonaea viscosa (Hopbush) plant. The Hopbush bark shows effective adsorption of MR, upto 73%, under optimized conditions in an aqueous medium. The experimental conditions were optimized by examining the effect of time, initial dye concentration, pH and ionic strength on the adsorption process in an aqueous medium. Maximum (i.e., 73%) adsorption of MR removal (500 ppm) was observed in highly acidic…
Basaltic Rocks Analyzed by the Spirit Rover in Gusev Crater
2004
The Spirit landing site in Gusev Crater on Mars contains dark, fine-grained, vesicular rocks interpreted as lavas. Pancam and MiniâThermal Emission Spectrometer (Mini-TES) spectra suggest that all of these rocks are similar but have variable coatings and dust mantles. Magnified images of brushed and abraded rock surfaces show alteration rinds and veins. Rock interiors contain â¤25% megacrysts. Chemical analyses of rocks by the Alpha Particle X-ray Spectrometer are consistent with picritic basalts, containing normative olivine, pyroxenes, plagioclase, and accessory FeTi oxides. MoÌssbauer, Pancam, and Mini-TES spectra confirm the presence of olivine, magnetite, and probably pyroxene. The…
Mineralogy at Gusev Crater from the Mössbauer spectrometer on the Spirit Rover.
2004
Mössbauer spectra measured on Mars by the Spirit rover during the primary mission are characterized by two ferrous iron doublets (olivine and probably pyroxene) and a ferric iron doublet (tentatively associated to nanophase ferric iron oxide). Two sextets resulting from nonstoichiometric magnetite are also present, except for a coating on the rock Mazatzal, where a hematite-like sextet is present. Greater proportions of ferric-bearing phases are associated with undisturbed soils and rock surfaces as compared to fresh rock surfaces exposed by grinding. The ubiquitous presence of olivine in soil suggests that physical rather than chemical weathering processes currently dominate at Gusev crat…
Chronology of early Archaean granite-greenstone evolution in the Barberton Mountain Land, South Africa, based on precise dating by single zircon evap…
1991
We report precise 207Pb/206Pb single zircon evaporation ages for low-grade felsic metavolcanic rocks within the Onverwacht and Fig Tree Groups of the Barberton Greenstone Belt (BGB), South Africa, and from granitoid plutons bordering the belt. Dacitic tuffs of the Hooggenoeg Formation in the upper part of the Onverwacht Group yield ages between 3445 +/- 3 and 3416 +/- 5 Ma and contain older crustal components represented by a 3504 +/- 4 Ma old zircon xenocryst. Fig Tree dacitic tuffs and agglomerates have euhedral zircons between 3259 +/- 5 and 3225 +/- 3 Ma in age which we interpret to reflect the time of crystallization. A surprisingly complex xenocryst population in one sample documents …
HPTLC and GC-MS for separation and identification of eugenol in plants
2007
Samples of clove, nutmeg, and cinnamon have been extracted by maceration with ethanol for 24 h and with aqueous ethanol 48 h. Rhizomes of herb bennet ( Geum urbanum ) and calamus ( Aconum calamus ) and roots of valerian ( Valeriana officinalis ) have been subjected to aqueous hydrolysis then extraction with dichloromethane. The active principles from the samples were separated on silica gel HPTLC plates, with pure (standard) and dental (pharmaceutical) eugenol, using n -heptane-ethyl acetate 60+40 ( v / v ) as mobile phase. After development the components were visualized in UV light at λ = 254 nm. The presence of eugenol was confirmed by GC-MS.
Effect of pressure and temperature on viscosity of a borosilicate glass
2018
International audience; During industrial glass production processes, the actual distribution of stress components in the glass during scribing remains, to date, poorly quantified, and thus continues to be challenging to model numerically. In this work, we experimentally quantified the effect of pressure and temperature on the viscosity of SCHOTT N-BK7 glass, by performing in situ deformation experiments at temperatures between 550 and 595 °C and confining pressures between 100 MPa and 300 MPa. Experiments were performed at constant displacement rates to produce almost constant strain rates between 9.70 × 10 −6 s-1 and 4.98 × 10-5 s-1. The resulting net axial stresses range from 81 MPa to 8…
