Multi-layered, covalently supported ionic liquid phase (mlc-SILP) as highly cross-linked support for recyclable palladium catalysts for the suzuki re…

2011

The reaction between an excess of 1,4-bis(3-vinylimidazolium-1-yl) bromide and a mercaptopropyl-modified amorphous silica gel or ordered mesoporous silica SBA-15 in the presence of azobisisobutyronitrile (AIBN) afforded new materials, which have a high loading of imidazolium moieties. These materials, which contain a highly cross-linked polymeric network, have been denoted as multi-layered, covalently supported ionic liquid phase (mlc-SILP) and have been used as support for palladium catalysts containing a high loading of the metal (10 wt%). Such materials were characterized by several techniques (13C magic angle spinning nuclear magnetic resonance, the Brunauer–Emmett–Teller technique, sma…

Uptake of actinides by calcium silicate hydrate (C-S-H) phases

2018

Abstract The sorption of actinides (Th, U – Am) was studied in dependence of the solid-to-liquid (S/L) ratio (0.5–20.0 g/L) and the calcium-to-silicon (C:S) ratio. The C:S ratio was varied between 1.80 and 0.70 to simulate the changing composition of the C-S-H phases during cement degradation from high to low C:S ratios. The decrease of the calcium content in the C-S-H phases by time is accompanied by a decrease in pH in the corresponding suspensions from 12.6 to 10.2. X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy (XPS) of the C-S-H phases showed an increasing depletion of Ca on the surface with increasing C:S ratio in comparison to the composition of the solid phase as a whole. The sorption experiments…

Influence of Sodium on the Structure and HDS Activity of Co–Mo Catalysts Supported ON Silica and Aluminosilicate

2000

Abstract Structural changes and catalytic performances of hydrodesulfurization (HDS) Co–Mo catalysts, supported on amorphous aluminosilicate (ASA) and amorphous SiO 2 were investigated as a function of the amount of sodium ions added to the supports. The catalysts were prepared according to the incipient wet impregnation method using (NH 4 ) 6 Mo 7 O 24 as molybdenum precursor and CoCl 2 or Co(NO 3 ) 2 as cobalt precursor. Structural and morphological characterisations of the materials were performed with X-ray diffraction (XRD) and surface area measurements (BET). In the case of the ASA-supported catalysts, increasing the amount of sodium resulted in a gradual decrease of the catalyst surf…

Facile immobilization of copper(I) acetate on silica: A recyclable and reusable heterogeneous catalyst for azide–alkyne clickable cycloaddition react…

2019

Abstract The structurally well-defined copper(I) acetate was immobilized on silica gel via electrostatic interactions. The catalytic activity of the immobilized catalyst Cu(I)–SiO2 was examined in the click synthesis of 1,2,3-triazoles in water/ethanol at room temperature. The catalyst showed high catalytic activity and regioselectivity for the Huisgen [3+2] cycloaddition reaction between terminal alkynes and azides. The catalyst was recovered by simple filtration and reused for up to five times. The analysis of the local electrophilicity/nucleophilicity has been performed on the dinuclear copper–acetylide complex intermediate. Conceptual DFT (CDFT) analysis enabled the explanation of the f…

Silintaphin-1 - interaction with silicatein during structure-guiding bio-silica formation

2011

Silicateins are unique enzymes of sponges (phylum Porifera) that template and catalyze the polymerization of nanoscale silicate to siliceous skeletal elements. These multifunctional spicules are often elaborately shaped, with complex symmetries. They carry an axial proteinaceous filament, consisting of silicatein and the scaffold protein silintaphin-1, which guides silica deposition and subsequent spicular morphogenesis. In vivo, the synthesis of the axial filament very likely proceeds in three steps: (a) assembly of silicatein monomers to form one pentamer; (b) assembly of pentamers to form fractal-like structures; and finally (c) assembly of fractal-like structures to form filaments. The …

Single particle jumps and correlated ionic motions in glass-ceramics

1993

Using impedance spectroscopy, the ion transport in poorly Li-conducting aluminosilicate glass ceramics and their precursor glasses has been measured for temperatures 50 K < T < 550 K and covering a frequency range of more than 14 decades from 10 mHz up to 3 THz. In addition to the familiar cooperative ionic motion dominating at high temperatures, for the first time dielectric relaxation due to elementary hopping processes is observed well below room temperature.
